Program Benefits - Graduates This position may attract an incentive payment of $5,650 (pre-tax) for the successful candidate who meets the eligibility criteria set out under conditions of employment Role - Graduates The primary focus of the range 1 classroom teacher is on further developing skills and competencies to become an effective classroom practitioner with structured support and guidance from teachers at higher levels and the planning, preparation and teaching of programs to achieve specific student outcomes.
These teachers teach a range of students/classes and are accountable for the effective delivery of their programs. Range 1 classroom teachers are skilled teachers who operate under general direction within clear guidelines following established work practices and documented priorities and may have responsibility for the supervision and training of one or more student teachers.
At range 1, teachers participate in the development of school policies and programs and assist in the implementation of school priorities. The focus of a range 1 classroom teacher is on classroom management, subject content and teaching practice. New entrants to the teaching profession in their initial teaching years receive structured support, mentoring and guidance from teachers at higher levels.
Under guidance, new entrants to the teaching profession will plan and teach student groups in one or more subjects and are expected to participate in induction programs and other professional learning activities that are designed to ensure the integration of curriculum, assessment and pedagogy across the school.
Teachers at range 1 are responsible for teaching their own classes and may also assist and participate in policy development, project teams and the organisation of co-curricular activities.
Responsibilities - Graduates Core responsibilities include:
Planning and implementing a range of teaching programs or courses of study Teaching an area of the curriculum or a general curriculum to a year level Monitoring, evaluating and reporting student progress in key learning areas Implementing strategies to achieve targets related to student learning outcomes Maintaining records of class attendance and recording student progress Implementing effective student management consistent with the school charter. Working with a mentor to participate in professional development planning, implementation and reflection developing a professional portfolio Additional responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

Eligibility for incentive payments:
The successful candidate is committing to a minimum of 1 year employment at this school The successful candidate will not be a Graduate Teacher Incentive recipient from a previous vacancy The successful candidate must not be employed as a teacher by the Department at the time the advertised position is to commence To be eligible for employment, transfer or promotion in the principal or teacher class a person must have provisional or full registration from the Victorian Institute of Teaching. In addition, from 3 August 2020, to be eligible for employment in the principal class or teacher class, a person who graduated from a Victorian Initial Teacher Education program after 1 July 2016, must demonstrate that they have passed the literacy and numeracy test for initial teacher education (LANTITE) requirements. This condition is satisfied where the LANTITE requirement is part of the Victorian Initial Teacher Education program completed by the person.
Location Profile San Remo Primary School was first opened on March 26 th , 1874. It is situated in the San Remo township, at the eastern entrance of Westernport Bay, approximately 135 kilometres from central Melbourne. It has a long tradition of serving the local communities of San Remo and Phillip Island. The school was moved to its existing site in 1948.
Students attending San Remo Primary School come from varied family backgrounds. Historically, families in the area have come from fishing and farming backgrounds; however, in more recent years the area has become a desirable place to live for people from a broader variety of backgrounds. Some family members commute to Melbourne for work, while other families are either self-employed or employed in a range of businesses in the area. The school attracts students from the township of San Remo to Bass on the mainland and from Phillip Island.
There are no buses used at the school, which means that most parents drop off and pick up children from school each day, creating the opportunity for social interaction and strong parent involvement.
Our facilities, whilst older than other schools in the area, are well maintained, neat and meet the needs of our community. We are extremely well resourced with interactive televisions in every classroom, computers in each classroom as well as notebooks for the children to use. Our grounds are well maintained with native and bird attracting plants a feature.
We are fortunate to share the San Remo Recreation Centre that is adjacent to our school and have daily use of this facility. Assemblies, Physical Education classes, special theme days, performing and visual arts programs all utilise this venue. While we cater to all curriculum areas, including specialist subjects of Japanese, Physical Education, Art, Music and MARC Van, we also offer extra-curricular activities such as grades 3-6 sport, bike education, swimming, a camp program from grade 3 to grade 6 and strong transition programs for both kindergarten and grade 6 students as well as between grade 1 to 5.
Our staff structure combines experienced and graduate teachers who are all passionate about teaching and learning and continue to develop their knowledge through targeted professional development. Our caring, professional staff value all children and are dedicated to providing an excellent curriculum with high expectations and results. Teachers meet regularly in their teams and as a whole staff to plan and evaluate teaching programs across the school. Student wellbeing is a priority at San Remo Primary with teachers sharing responsibility for all. We believe that all children can and will learn in a supportive and encouraging environment. We currently have 7 grades operating in 2024.
