Details of the offer

Teacher - Early Childhood Education Branch: Wananami Remote Community School
Division: Kimberley Education Region
Salary: Teacher, $78,397 - $113,568 per annum (pro-rata) (SEA GA 2021)
This is a thirty-six (36) month fixed term, full-time position commencing Term 1, 2025. Wananami Remote Community School is located on Mount Barnett Station in the spectacular Kimberley Region of Western Australia, approximately 500kms north of Broome. While Wananami is situated in the community of Kupungarri/Mount Barnett, it services three communities: Imintji, Kupungarri and Dodnun, all found along the iconic Gibb River Road. Students travel from Imintji and Dodnun by bus for up to an hour each way to and from school. The surrounding gorges, rivers and rangers are utilised by the school where our students undertake on-country learning experiences and other activities such as swimming lessons.
The school provides teaching and learning programs from Kindergarten to Year 12, for predominantly Indigenous students, aged between 4 and 17 years. Most students come from an Aboriginal English or English as a second dialect background and many are familiar with the local Aboriginal language, 'Ngarinyin'. Despite the school's isolated location, many programs and facilities are available to the students including wifi, satellite internet, fibre optic connection between classrooms, a range of digital learning equipment and a fully equipped kitchen. There are 5 classrooms including a new Early Childhood Centre utilised for Kindilink.
We are seeking an individual who is passionate about making a difference in the lives of the children in our community. The successful applicant will ideally be able to show exemplary teaching skills, be highly motivated and enthusiastic. The successful applicant will ideally have the ability to work in a team environment and have a commitment to both play-based learning and explicit teaching. The successful applicant will ideally also possess a high level of interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with staff and community members to develop a culturally responsive learning environment. In addition, Wananami RCS prioritises a culture of continual reflection and improvement by empowering staff to work together to use student achievement data, set goals and develop instructional strategies that are responsive to student needs.
The Early Childhood Teacher will ideally be a team player, with an enthusiastic approach to engaging students to do their best and a willingness to learn and adopt a trauma responsive approach and restorative practices. You will be expected to be able to show data-driven teaching practices alongside a play-based approach and a good understanding of how to establish a positive classroom environment, fostering high care and expectations. Ideally, you will have a strong understanding of the core frameworks: National Quality Standards and Early Years Learning Framework.
It is ideal that the successful Early Childhood Educator provides both differentiated and individualised instruction, incorporating proven strategies to support students with special education needs and has experience or a desire to work with students from Aboriginal families and promote pride in self and culture.
