About the role We are seeking to appoint a Career Practitioner, a specialist teacher who will support the career development of students. This is an exciting opportunity for teachers with an interest in student career pathways. Our Career Practitioner will work with the school leadership team and embed career development and work exposure activities into curricular and co-curricular programs. Career Practitioners will be innovators and have the ability to work collaboratively across a school.
They will implement programs and provide resources to embed career development across learning areas. We are looking for a teacher that enjoys working with students to help them imagine and connect with their future career aspirations. Confidence to make decisions and enact necessary curriculum reform will be essential attributes for the role. Teachers in this specialist role will also need to be competent in the interpretation and analysis of system and school-based data.
To be competitive for this role, a high level of knowledge about the diversity of career pathways, with an understanding of school contexts in relation to local employers, community agencies and training providers is desirable. Career Practitioners are also expected to have strong communication skills and be able to liaise with and share information easily with students, staff, parents, training providers, employers and industry. A willingness to deliver career-based lessons face-to-face to groups of students is an expectation of this role.
Typically Career Practitioners are required to have completed a Graduate Certificate in Career Development. Applicants who have previously completed this qualification, or those willing to complete it during this contract, will be considered highly desirable.
Our school The College is located on a large, well-maintained and attractive site in the centre of Kununurra. The school draws from a diverse town population representing Aboriginal communities, agricultural, horticultural, mining and related service industries. An extensive range of State and Commonwealth agencies are represented in Kununurra, and they work closely with the school to ensure the best support is available for our students.

The location and community Kununurra is the eastern gateway to the Kimberley and offers many opportunities for adventure seekers. Throughout March to October the weather is mild, the surroundings are lush green, and there are many camping and hiking opportunities within a short drive. Lake Kununurra is a 56km stretch of fresh water that runs along the edge of the Town of Kununurra and connects to Lake Argyle, making easy access for fishing and boating. Throughout December to February the wet season fills the local springs and turns on local waterfalls, making Kununurra a beautiful place to live all year round.
For those wanting to explore the Kimberley, the Gibb River Road begins 58kms outside of Kununurra and runs all the way to Broome via a series of sealed and unsealed roads. Campsites and gorges are dotted all the way along. Kununurra also connects to Broome via the sealed Great Northern Highway, which runs through Halls Creek and the Fitzroy Valley Crossing.
