Teacher Agriculture - Kempsey High SchoolKempsey High School (KHS) is built on the lands of the Dunghutti people and has an enrolment of 550 students including 42% Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students.
It is a comprehensive high school (7-12), engaged in several initiatives to support students from Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander backgrounds and for students from low socio-economic status communities.
Kempsey High School became a Connected Communities High School in 2021.Kempsey High School is seeking compassionate, innovative, and dynamic teachers who can work within a team of school staff and community professionals to address the teaching, learning and social and emotional needs of students.
KHS has partnered with Real Schools to develop a strong culture built on positive and respectful relationships.
There is a focus on building teacher capacity through our Professional Learning Team's (HIPL), which supports the professional growth of all teaching staff to deepen teaching practice for ongoing growth in student progress and achievement.The school has a priority on building highly effective systems developed through strong collaboration that will underpin ongoing school improvement.
We are further enhancing our wellbeing model across the school community, focusing on high expectations for all.
A purpose-built facility will open in 2025 that will support the delivery of key services to students and families through government and non-government inter-agency collaboration.Kempsey High School's farm caters for Stage 4 to 6 Agriculture and Primary Industries, spanning 5 acres adjacent to the main campus and is fully equipped with two classrooms, an outdoor learning area, and machinery and tractor sheds.
Recent upgrades include new fencing, improved plumbing across the farm, and a refurbished greenhouse, with the installation of a 15m commercial-grade hothouse tunnel fitted with hydroponics nearing completion.
Current animal enterprises include beef cattle (feedlot and pasture, with show cattle) and breeding heifers, lambs, pigs, and chickens.
Plant production includes vegetables, small crops, fruit trees, and various pastures, with opportunity for expansion into additional enterprises.Selection CriteriaApproval to teach Agriculture.Willingness to teach Primary Industries.Well-developed interpersonal, communication and organisational skills with the capacity to work as a collaborative member of the Science and TAS faculties.Ability to differentiate programs and learning to meet the needs of a diverse range of students.Ability to perform duties associated with running a teaching farm.Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policies.ConditionsAn unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement.
