Teacher - Agriculture and Junior ScienceThe Armidale School ('TAS') is a co-educational Anglican boarding and day school with a Junior School (Transition to Year 5), and Middle School (Year 6-8) and Senior School (Year 9-12). The School has an enrolment of approximately 680 students, including over 200 boarders.TAS values and actively pursues individual academic performance and effort, but a TAS education is a comprehensive one, presenting every student with the experiences that create character and resilience, promote creativity, initiative and leadership and prepare them for life. We are proud of our history and traditions and membership of the GPS, yet at the same time we are liberal and progressive.TAS staff are intrinsically involved in all aspects of the co-curricular program, allowing them to build greater understanding and rapport with each student.Position OverviewDue to growth, an exciting opportunity exists for a teacher of Agriculture and Junior Science to join our dynamic and innovative teaching team. It is an expectation that our teachers will possess a range of strategies to actively engage students in a challenging and exciting learning process that differentiates according to age, ability, and specific individual needs. The ability to teach, or willingness to be trained, in VET Primary Industries would be advantageous.While the School has an explicit focus on literacy and numeracy, nurturing students' intellectual, emotional, spiritual and creative growth is also fundamental to a TAS education.The role of Senior and Middle School Teacher is a key role in the academic and pastoral life of the School and reports to the Head of Science and Agriculture Coordinator.All teachers are required to participate in the wider life of the School including co-curricular, sporting events and excursions.Requirements of this role:Middle and Senior School Academic Staff members are expected to:Demonstrate and promote excellence in classroom teaching.Develop interesting and engaging lessons for students with a wide range of learning abilities and styles with support from the Head of Department and Subject Coordinator.Meet regularly with the Head of Department and Subject Coordinator to discuss class and student progress and achievement.Work collaboratively and contributing to a team environment.Foster the use and implementation of new technologies.Create teaching programs, including assessment plans for each class and submit to Head of Department as required.Contribute to the evaluation, development and implementation of curriculum in subject area.Adhere to the School's assessment schedule, conventions and deadlines.Initiate contact with parents, as appropriate, concerning student's academic progress and behaviour.Respond in a timely manner to all school related correspondence to both internal and external stakeholders.Demonstrate interpersonal skills of a high order.Attend and participate in faculty meetings.Participate in excursions, competitions and other relevant curricular activities.Attend to the responsibilities of grounds supervision and other supervisory duties as required.Attend assemblies and staff meetings.Attend School community events such as open days and speech days.Be involved in the process of reflective evaluation and goal setting for own professional growth as an educator.Relevant teaching qualifications and accreditation as required by NESA Teacher AccreditationNSW Working With Children Check prior to commencement on site.All staff of the school are expected to be fully supportive of the School's pastoral care and cocurricular programs. This includes:Responsibility for the pastoral care of a small group of students through the role of 'Advisor'.Assistance with the sports program as a coach or supervisor in both the summer and winter seasons.Involvement in the Activities program (which includes outdoor education, cadets, surf lifesaving, rural fire service, Year 12 study program)Preparing students for national testing and competitions.Representing the school in the local community and participation in relevant professional associations.Child ProtectionThe Armidale School is fully committed to the protection of children and young people during all School activities and environments both within and outside of school hours.It is expected that all staff will:Be aware of, understand and comply with the principles of the Child Protection and Mandatory Reporting requirements at all times;Ensure adherence to the School's Child Protection Policies and demonstration of behaviours in accordance with these;Undertake regular training and professional development in Child Protection;Respond according to the School's policies and procedures when interacting with children, taking immediate and appropriate action towards all allegations and concerns;Be committed to providing a safe environment for all children, promoting physical, emotional and cultural safety.Employment with The Armidale School is subject to school policies including, but not limited to:1. Bullying and HarassmentReporting RelationshipsThis position ultimately reports to the Principal, however for all day to day matters, the Head of Science and Agriculture Coordinator are the primary line managers. Pastoral and Co-curricular reporting lines also exist for matters relating to these areas of the School.Remuneration Package and ConditionsSalaries and conditions for the position are governed by the 'Independent Schools NSW Teachers (Hybrid Model) Multi-Enterprise Agreement 2021' ('MEA') or any instrument that replaces this MEA.
