Location ProfileMornington Special Developmental School is a Specialist School that caters for students with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities on the Mornington Peninsula. The school is located beside Mornington Park Primary School, providing opportunities to develop interaction and integration programs that enhance our school-based programs. We are a small, safe, family-friendly school, with groups averaging 6-8 students. All programs are based on the belief that all students can learn and experience success, aiming to provide a friendly, safe, and structured learning environment. Selection CriteriaSC1 Demonstrated knowledge of the relevant curriculum, including the ability to incorporate literacy and numeracy skills and respond to student learning needs.
SC2 Demonstrated experience in planning and implementing high impact teaching strategies and evaluating their impact on student learning growth.
SC3 Demonstrated experience in monitoring and assessing student learning, using data to inform teaching practice, and providing feedback on student growth and achievement.
SC4 Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills, with experience in establishing collaborative relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and the broader school community.
SC5 Demonstrated behaviours consistent with Department values, reflecting upon practice, and engaging in professional learning to improve teaching quality.
RoleThe classroom teacher classification comprises two salary ranges - range 1 and range 2. The primary focus is on planning, preparation, and teaching to achieve specific student outcomes. Teachers engage in critical reflection and inquiry to improve their knowledge and skills. As teachers gain experience, their contribution to the school program beyond the classroom increases. All classroom teachers may undertake additional duties appropriate to their salary range, qualifications, and experience.
Classroom Teacher Range 2
Range 2 classroom teachers assist the school in improving student performance and educational outcomes, contributing to the development and implementation of school policies. They will:
Have content knowledge and pedagogical practice to meet diverse student needs.Model exemplary classroom practice and mentor other teachers.Provide expert advice on content and strategies for professional learning.Supervise and train student teachers.Assist staff in using student data to inform teaching approaches.Classroom Teacher Range 1
The primary focus is on developing skills to become an effective classroom practitioner with structured support. Range 1 teachers are accountable for delivering programs and may supervise student teachers. They participate in policy development and assist in implementing school priorities.
ResponsibilitiesThe role of classroom teacher may include but is not limited to:
Direct teaching of groups and individuals.Contributing to curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation.Undertaking classroom-related and organizational duties.Participating in activities such as parent/teacher meetings and excursions.Undertaking non-teaching supervisory duties.Who May ApplyTeachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach in the specified curriculum areas.
