Here at HSBC Australia we have an exciting opportunity for a Tax Manager to join us. The primary purpose of this role is to manage the tax compliance and advisory services for the New Zealand branch and ensure the delivery of a professional, effective and responsive tax service at optimal cost. As the role will be part of the Australian/NZ tax team, exposure to the Australian business and Australian tax will also occur. Other aspects of the role include reviewing and assessing tax legislation changes, managing tax risk, and the representation of tax in internal and external forums.
Responsibilities: Responsibility for ensuring operational tax compliance. Responsibility for managing corporate tax compliance, tax accounting and audit activities. Properly and effectively manage tax exposures and risks by ensuring all tax compliance results in zero penalties. Ensure tax knowledge is sufficient to be able to provide tax advice to all levels of New Zealand management and business units on taxation issues, as well as New Zealand tax advice to Group members on cross border transactions involving New Zealand and determine when external advice is required. Support with influencing or lobbying external bodies, including the preparation of industry submissions and liaison with the Inland Revenue. This includes representing the New Zealand business at tax audits and meetings with the Inland Revenue including preparing and presenting submissions to the Inland Revenue. Support the management of tax reputational risks in New Zealand. Support with similar activities over the Australian business. Make tax decisions with oversight from NZ Head of Finance and AU Head of Tax. Requirements Requirements: An undergraduate or post graduate degree, preferably in Tax, Accounting, Finance or Business related. Professional qualification (member of recognised accountancy body e.g. CA). Experience working for one of the big four professional service firms is highly desirable. Subject matter expertise in tax. A high level of professional competence which helps to advise the business on tax exposures and tax effective approach of business and operations. Understands and anticipates strategic implications from tax laws to the business. Significant experience in tax. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to articulate the case for risk management in the language of business.
Ability to make robust decisions which may be contrary to the business wishes and ability to prioritise competing demands.
Preference will be given to candidates who hold Australian PR/Citizenship or New Zealand Citizenship, or who can demonstrate current unrestricted work rights in Australia without limitations.
