The Opportunity The Legal Counsel is a diverse legal role reporting to the Head of Legal and Governance and sits in our Legal and Governance team, who are responsible for providing high quality legal, governance, and related services to the entire business, collaborating and partnering with business units to deliver TasWater's strategic objectives to be trusted, respected and making a positive difference in Tasmania.
We offer flexible working arrangements and hours. We are open to either part time (preferably 3 days) or a full time employee.
Some of the things you'll be responsible for include:
Providing legal advice to internal stakeholders on a wide range of corporate issues including compliance, commercial arrangements and contracting models, procurement, including tendering and probity, pricing and consumer law, insurance and claims, workplace relations, property transactions including acquisitions and disposals, and property development, planning and environment, construction and major projects. Development of documents, contracts and agreements to ensure compliance with the law, reflection of the business' appetite for risk, and sound commercial practice. Management of legal claims, including representing the organisation in court, tribunals, mediation and/or briefing counsel or external lawyers on legal matters, ensuring that the organisation is effectively represented in any legal action in which it is involved. Assisting with the organisation's corporate governance framework and governance and compliance programs including reporting to the Board and drafting and reviewing policies and procedures. What we are looking for To be successful you will need a Bachelor of Laws and a practising certificate (or the ability to gain the same) with experience (preferably 2-6 years post qualification experience) in the delivery of effective, pragmatic and quality legal services, along with highly developed interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

The ability to prioritise the competing demands of various stakeholders in a high demand environment, be innovative and resolve issues in a timely and commercial way in the best interests of TasWater. The Details This role can be based in either Hobart, Launceston or Devonport and can attract a salary between $124,000 - $138,000 (inclusive of superannuation) and based on experience.
