With a shared vision to ensure Queensland workers, industry and communities are healthy, safe, fair and productive, the Office of Industrial Relations (OIR) provides a range of policy, advisory, compliance and specialist technical services and initiatives across Queensland.
We are seeking an experienced and strategic leader to step into the role of Executive Director, Specialised Health and Safety Services and lead this pivotal multi-disciplinary portfolio.

The Specialised Health and Safety Services Directorate is a critical portfolio within OIR and plays a pivotal role in the delivery of effective and high-quality health and safety regulation and advice.
The Executive Director Specialised Health and Safety Services leads a team of highly technical professionals from disciplines across chemical, mechanical and structural engineering, hydrogen, construction strategy, occupational health and hygiene, psychology, ergonomics and health and safety.
This role also represents the Queensland Government in a number of relevant state and national forums and interagency groups, including Chairing the Heads of Workplace Safety Authorities.

Reporting to the Deputy Director-General, Office of Industrial Relations, this role has specific legislative and policy responsibilities for work health and safety and provides strategic advice and direction to the planning, development and implementation of government priorities that enable industries to achieve safer and healthier workplaces.
You will drive cultural change to embed a strong and resilient performance culture, provide leadership across a multi-disciplinary team and ensure cohesion and commitment to the overarching strategic goals of the organisation.
You will provide strategic high-level advice through analysis and assessment of trends and emerging issues within and across all levels of the Department and Government and at the state and national level, and build strong networks with stakeholders across industry.

About You
To be successful in this role, you will be an influential, multi-disciplinary leader with a proven track record in managing large, diverse teams and services.
You will be adept at leading highly technical teams across a range of specialties, and have a proven track record in strategic policy development and implementation.
You will be at the forefront of managing changes in legislation and best practice in a workplace health and safety context, and display high levels of judgement and integrity in representing the Government of the day.

You will thrive in dynamic environments and be able to manage your time effectively across a diverse and complex portfolio of work.
You will have prior experience providing technical expertise and advice on policy matters, and have a high degree of political acumen and the ability to balance competing pressures.
Additionally, you will have extensive experience in a regulatory environment and be confident making timely, considered and defendable decisions based on expert advice.
You will have the ability to cultivate strong, productive relationships with stakeholders internally and externally, demonstrate sound judgement and risk management, and the ability to work fairly autonomously.
You will support robust governance frameworks and have the capacity to apply innovative and future-focused thinking to solving complex problems, and be adept at leading change within challenging environments.
