We are currently seeking a Tailings Engineer for our Mine Waste team ideally in Melbourne, Victoria but will consider applicants in other locations. We are the tailings consultant of choice for several global mining companies and our team works across the entire tailings project cycle from feasibility, site investigation, design, construction, commissioning, operations and maintenance, and closure. Some of the key responsibilities may include:Developing a basis for defensible soil strength parameters, using laboratory and field results.Undertaking screening level and detailed design analyses to support the design of tailings storage facilities and other earth structures, with support and guidance from our senior specialists.Developing designs for tailings storage facilities and other earth structures.Managing the specification and implementing design changes while on site.Responsible for project planning, preparation of technical deliverables (such as proposals and reports), and the coordination of client-contractor requests with some senior support.Interpreting results from laboratory testing and preparing summary reports.Undertaking design assessments, including tailings beach modelling, and stability and seepage analyses.Travelling to remote mine sites to complete site inspections, supervise geotechnical investigations, complete QA/QC activities and oversee the construction of tailings storage facility designs developed by our Mine Waste team.Working with and providing support to other members of the group as well as mentoring of junior staff, as required.Working with other professionals in project teams and other offices.Conduct general field and office assignments under supervision.Identify safety hazards and report OH&S and environmental incidents.Complete inductions, training programs, and pre-requisites as required.Conduct all work to satisfy all company, client, and government conditions, policies, procedures, regulations, and standards, as required.Delivering technical reports on time.About youBachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline. A Master's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering is also preferable.EA Chartered Engineer or close to achieving.Previous experience working on tailings/mine waste related projects locally or internationally, in a consulting environment.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Enthusiasm for fieldwork and willing to travel to remote sites periodically.Ability to work efficiently autonomously and in a team environment.Good attention to detail and time management ability.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.About WSPWSP is one of the world's leading engineering professional services firms, bringing together approximately 6,000 talented people across 15 offices in Australia.
