Role Summary: We are seeking a dedicated Safety Engineer to lead and manage all system safety aspects within operations, ensuring strict adherence to the Land Materiel Safety Manual (LMSM), and WHS regulations in the Defence industry.
This role is central to maintaining safety compliance, assessing risks, and implementing controls as part of the In-service Materiel Safety Plan (IMSP).
The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to uphold the highest safety standards.
Primary Duties:
Establish and update the In-service Materiel Safety Plan (IMSP) along with all related safety documentation, including Safety Case Reports and Hazard Logs, to ensure a comprehensive system safety framework.Conduct detailed hazard and risk assessments for engineering changes, defect handling, part substitutions, and procedural updates, ensuring all risks are controlled as far as reasonably practicable (SFARP).Evaluate engineering change proposals (ECPs) and requests for variances (RFVs), collaborating with subject matter experts to design and apply appropriate controls to maintain safety integrity.Maintain and enhance safety-related operating procedures and registers, ensuring they align with regulatory standards and organizational protocols.Work closely with the HSEQ Manager, government clients, and internal teams to ensure safety program alignment with LMSM, WHS regulations, and organizational safety policies.Lead SSWGs to review and address system safety considerations, ensuring all activities align with the approved safety program.Provide subject matter expertise for all system safety incidents and support incident resolution following approved processes.Act as the key point of contact on safety issues for customers, fostering open communication and cooperation.Oversee the storage, accuracy, and accessibility of all safety-related data within the engineering information and data management system.Support the Chief Engineer and Program Manager on other engineering initiatives as needed.Required Qualifications & Skills:
Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field.Demonstrated experience as a System Safety Engineer, preferably within Defence or a similar sector.Comprehensive understanding of Defence safety frameworks and policies, including LMSM, SafetyMan, CASsafe, and the WHS Act 2011.Strong verbal and written skills to communicate complex safety concepts, coupled with an ability to analyse and solve intricate problems effectively.Demonstrated ability to collaborate with and influence stakeholders to maintain robust safety standards.Proactive approach to identifying opportunities for process and program improvements.Australian citizenship with an active or recently held NV1 security clearance.This role offers a unique opportunity to make a substantial impact on system safety and operational excellence in the Defence Industry.
