The opportunity The Australian Government has announced its intention to partner with the United States in the Landsat Next Earth satellite program. Underpinned by new investment of $207.4m over the next 4 years, Australia will become the first country to join the Landsat 2030 International Partnerships Initiative.
The role The Systems Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining complex systems that deliver the Earth Observation ground and user segments made up of the capabilities required under the U.S./Australia Landsat Next Partnership. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of hardware and software solutions, optimising system performance, and troubleshooting issues as they arise.
In this role you will: Work with project managers and subject matter experts on the design of integrated system solutions that support the objectives of the Landsat Next partnership program.Provide technical expertise to enable configuration of system components and equipment for systems testing.Collaborate with technical teams to develop implementation plans and reports on progress.Analyse systems and apply engineering expertise to identify and recommend courses of action.Develop and enhance system engineering procedures, and provide technical support and advice to the broader program and key stakeholder groups.Support project teams to achieve technical complementarity and integration between GA's Landsat Next partnership projects.To be successful in the role you will: Possess an understanding of the role and responsibilities of the organisation, incorporating a comprehensive awareness of the relevance of the Landsat Next partnership to Australian Government policies, objectives, and priorities.Have excellent people skills, strong stakeholder engagement capabilities, alongside commitment and exceptional communication abilities.Required skills, knowledge, experience and/or qualifications Our ideal candidate will have:
A record of achievement in delivering systems engineering expertise and support to complex projects and programs in government and industry, and the provision of trusted professional advice to senior management.Experience in projects/programs involving Earth Observation missions including:Ground Segments incorporating ground stations, mission operations, data processing and ground calibration.User Segments incorporating Data Distribution and Analytics across multi-source, petabyte-scale, data synchronisation, storage, and service to users across multiple geographic locations.An internationally recognised qualification in a system engineering discipline or equivalent experience.To Apply Please visit the careers page of our website to submit your application via our e-Recruit system.
