The Queensland Synod is the state council of the Uniting Church who come together every 18 months for Synod in Session - a meeting to discern together and make decisions for the management of the Synod.
The Office of the Synod's purpose is to act upon the discernment of the Synod, to enable, equip and encourage a renewing and growing Church across Queensland. We are mission-driven, service-orientated and relationally focussed.
Position purpose: The purpose of this role is to provide management and technical support of the financial software, and associated processes across the Queensland Synod ensuring overall performance is cost effective, efficient and aligned to the Church's Strategic plans.

Key responsibilities: Ensure financial systems accurately reflect financial data, enabling efficient reporting and analysis through maintaining system efficiency and optimisation. Evaluate, develop and maintain financial system processes to support, deliver and enhance the business needs they support. Drive new initiatives and finance practices leveraging the functionality within and across the finance systems. Design, plan, test and implement new system features to improve new and existing business processes. Plan, co-ordinate and manage system upgrades with software vendors, finance, IT and Business Excellence teams. Manage the configuration and maintenance of the finance system, including workflows, chart of accounts, posting rules and security settings. Perform regular audits of financial systems and data to ensure compliance with Synod Office policies and regulatory requirements. Provide training and support to finance (and other departments) on the use of financial systems, developing training materials and documentation to support ongoing training and support. Support the existing suite of Power BI reports, engaging with the finance team and other Synod Office stakeholders to develop new Power BI reports to meet the changing needs of the organisation. Act as the super user for the Synod Office's finance systems, responding to and providing system tech support for system-related queries and issues. Act as the point of contact with software vendors for system issues within budget. Stay updated with the latest financial software developments and emerging technologies. Maintain an in-depth understanding of all culture elements and values. Embody and continually demonstrate the value-based behaviours by setting a clear clean and consistent example for others. Model the values of the Uniting Church in Australia, Queensland Synod in day to day work including interactions with managers, lay staff, ministry agents, clients and stakeholders. Compliance with Queensland Synod policies, procedures and relevant legislation. Comply with Health and Safety directions and Public Health directions. Undertake other duties as and when directed within the scope of the role and the capabilities of the incumbent. Key performance indicators: Responses to system related queries are provided in a respectful and timely manner. System updates and changes are communicated and escalated in a timely manner. Comply with delegations of the Office of Synod where delegations have been permanently or temporarily assigned to the position. Maintain alignment with the Office of Synod purpose, culture and values (values referenced under additional requirements). Relevant business tertiary qualifications (Accounting, Finance, IT or related field) Professional accounting qualification (CPA) preferred Experience and skills:
A commitment to, and understanding of, the ethos of the Uniting Church in Australia (for a fuller understanding of the ethos of the church, refer to The Basis of Union ). Demonstrated strong understanding of finance and accounting principles and standards. Preferably 5+ years' experience supporting a financial accounting system Demonstrated understanding of finance systems (preferably Power BI, Microsoft Dynamics, Business Central, Power On Budgeting Software, Xero). Excellent general IT knowledge, with a focus on database management, system integration and financial software. Experience developing Power BI reports Proven analytical mindset with strong solution focused abilities Demonstrated ability to learn the system and understand the business needs it supports Proven ability to manage and prioritise workloads with multiple priorities with excellent time management. Understanding of and a capacity to work within a Not-for-Profit environment would be an advantage. Additional requirements: Current Driver's license National Criminal History Check to be provided and assessed every three years. Presentation of a current National Criminal History Check must be made before appointment to the position can be confirmed. Professional membership (If holds CPA) The successful applicant must be eligible to legally work in Australia and proof of eligibility may be requested.
