System Controller Joining our team means you'll be part of something that really matters.
As our System Controller, you will be based in Bentley and participate in an attractive shift work roster which supports our 24 hour, 7 day a week operation.
At Horizon Power we offer an outstanding work environment to effectively manage contemporary power systems across regional Western Australia.
This is a permanent full-time position.
Your role will include: • Monitoring and controlling 38 power system across regional Western Australia including: o North West Interconnected System (NWIS) in the Pilbara; and o Non-Interconnected System (NIS) across the State • Dispatching generation in the NWIS to match load and changing conditions on the system • Monitoring all weather-related events using a variety of systems and respond to ensure safety and security of supply is maintained • Monitoring a trouble call system and dispatch fault jobs to the relevant regional workforce and contractors, including triage alarms to better inform the response • Liaising with our regional workforce, contractors and independent power producers to deliver efficient and effective outcomes with respect to works delivery and fault response • Coordinating outages to maintain system security and reliability • Creating, checking and implementing operational switching schedules to enable safe access to the power system in both planned and fault response situations • Creating, reviewing and following robust processes to deliver repeatable positive outcomes • Responding to emergency situations to maintain safety for the community using a variety of system control and monitoring interfaces • Communicating effectively the status of emerging issues and threats to our power systems to our regional workforce, contractors, managers, and executives • Interacting with technical experts to inform responses to complex issues You will have: • Electrical trade qualifications; or Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering • Extensive experience in the operation and control of power systems • Sound understanding of power system fundamentals including management of generation, renewables, and power flows across complex high voltage and low voltage networks • Experience in high voltage switching • Experience in generation dispatch and coordination, including the management of real and reactive power, spinning reserve for system security and efficiency as well as frequency and voltage control • Foundational knowledge in planning and design of power systems, including protection systems • Proficient computer skills Our employees enjoy real rewards and recognition including: • Working on impressive renewable energy projects across WA • 13 weeks long service leave after 7 years of continuous service • Paid parental leave for primary and secondary caregivers • Special family leave of up to 10 days paid, non-cumulative • Top up Personal Leave (up to 500 hours) Our workplace culture is created through every interaction, every experience and everything we do.
