SML provides an environment that support competitive trade and effective distribution and is the largest wholesale fruit, vegetable and flower markets in Australia and one of the largest food distribution centres in the Southern Hemisphere.
SML is responsible for the operations and property management of the Markets, including all financial, corporate, marketing, promotions, facilities maintenance, and development requirements. There are various market brands managed by SML, comprising Sydney Produce Market, Sydney Growers Market and Sydney Flower Market in addition to community markets (Paddy's Markets) located at Flemington and Haymarket, providing a retail offering to the general public with a diverse range of fresh fruit and vegetables, fresh foods, flowers, gifts, souvenirs, and second-hand goods.

This is a paid position with a competitive market remuneration on offer.
The Board is seeking candidates who are passionate about SML's work and meet the selection criteria outlined below.
Key selection criteria
The successful candidate must be able to meet the following criteria.Demonstrated skills and experience in the following areas:Commercial property and/or property development, and Supply chain and/or logistics The ability to play an active role in strategic planning including critically assessing strategic opportunities and threats for SMLProven ability to critically assess company financial and operational performance through the application of skills, experience and personal qualitiesA sound working knowledge of corporate governance systems and frameworks, and an ability to apply that to a company comparative to SMLDemonstrated ability to work effectively within a complex and multifaceted organisation including liaising with, and gaining the trust and respect of diverse shareholdersIt would also be advantageous for candidates to have had some exposure to:the agricultural or horticultural industry, and/orreal estate including office buildings, retail shopping centres, industrial estates, and warehouses or large infrastructure assets including airports.Although SML isgeographically located in Sydney, strong candidates from across Australia are encouraged to apply.
