Biodiversity : Explore our Council region's varied flora and fauna Job Description Position objectives The primary objective of this position is to assist the Coordinator Environment and Community Safety in managing Council's waste and recycling services, including FOGO, to achieve industry best practices and ensure legislative compliance. This role involves coordinating the development, implementation, and evaluation of waste management strategies and action plans, researching and implementing modern industry technologies, driving community engagement and education initiatives, managing key waste-related projects, and providing informed advice to the Council and Executive Leadership Team.
Key responsibility areas Assist the Coordinator Environment and Community Safety with the management of Council's waste and recycling services (including FOGO) and identify opportunities for continuous improvement aimed at achieving industry "best practice" and ensure legislative compliance.
Coordinate the development, implementation, evaluation and review of Council's Waste Management Strategy and Waste Action Plan, and other plans and policies related to this position.
Work with partners to review and research industry technology to ensure implementation of modern practices to advance our waste services, whilst keeping abreast of all relevant policy and legislation changes and grant opportunities.
Coordinate, promote and drive community and stakeholder-based education and engagement initiatives to contribute to the community's effective use of Council waste services.
Identify, design, deliver and evaluate key waste, resource recovery and circular economy projects in accordance with approved strategies.
Develop and implement programs across the Shire consistent with the Council's legal obligations, Council Plan, resolutions, approved strategies and in-line with State Government legislative requirements.
Provide informed and researched advice on issues of concern and as directed by the Coordinator Environment and Community Safety in relation to issues under consideration by the Executive Leadership Team or Council.
Assist with Emergency Management duties, as necessary.
Perform, as directed, other duties that are within the limits of the incumbents' skill, competence, and training.
Desired Skills and Experience Qualifications and experience Relevant tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Waste Management, or a related field, with demonstrated experience in managing waste and recycling services, including FOGO programs.
Selection criteria Demonstrated experience in managing waste and recycling services, including FOGO programs.
Comprehensive understanding of waste management practices, resource recovery, circular economy principles, and relevant policy and legislative frameworks.
Proven ability to design, deliver, and evaluate waste management projects, and develop programs in line with legal obligations and strategic plans.
Experience in coordinating and promoting community and stakeholder-based education and engagement initiatives with strong communication skills.
Strong analytical skills to provide researched and informed advice on waste management issues.
Demonstrated organisational and time management skills, the ability to work independently and as part of a team
