You'll work closely with business managers, project managers, and engineers to introduce new ideas and practices. You'll enjoy not only adapting to change, but making it happen! What are some example projects or experiences? Sustainability advisers work in rail organisations to support rail projects. They have extensive knowledge of environmental regulations, sustainability frameworks and industry standards. They also understand how these apply to the various projects they work on, and can advise stakeholders on compliance and best practice. A sustainability adviser spends most of their time in the office. However, they may visit a project site to carry out inspections or audits. They're excellent communicators, and will sometimes train others or deliver presentations. Sustainability advisers use data to make decisions, and know how to develop project documentation (such as a Sustainability Management Plan). They care about people and the environment, and think strategically about how to effectively use resources for the best environmental or social outcomes. What is the work environment like? Sustainability advisers often work in project teams with engineers, project managers, and business managers. You'll usually work in an office environment. At times you may visit communities, project sites, and facilities. You'll spend a lot of time at a computer, but will also participate in meetings and sometimes engage with members of the community. You can find work as a sustainability adviser all around Australia. Most jobs are in cities and towns. You may also be required to oversee projects in remote locations. Sustainability advisers typically have university qualifications.
