About the Role The purpose of this role is to support the Senior Surveyor of the Cadastral Infrastructure and Standards (CIS) section to deliver the legislated functions of the Surveyor-General, which include the provision of land surveying services, expert advice for government projects and land dealings, and monitoring the standard of cadastral surveys through the survey audit program. CIS is a section within the office of Surveyor-General Victoria (SGV) whose purpose is to ensure the provision of authoritative and efficient land surveying and drafting services to government and the private sector.
Position Outcomes / Accountabilities Assist licensed surveyors in undertaking survey audits and performing cadastral surveys and site analysis surveys for reporting on land use and land boundary matters for a range of Crown and government land related development projects.
Prepare survey files including the collation of survey information from Land Registry Services, Surveyor-General Victoria, Central Plan Office, Survey Marks Enquiry Service and other sources. Under the direction and supervision of a licensed surveyor perform elementary computations to assist with cadastral re-establishment and prepare relevant plans of surveys and abstracts of field records.
Assist in administrative functions within the section including the maintenance of databases and the processing of Records of having re-established a cadastral boundary lodged with the Surveyor-General. Contribute to the improvement of systems and practices within SGV including the implementation of new survey equipment and techniques.
Key Selection Criteria The Department of Transport and Planning is seeking a motivated and skilled Survey Technician to join our team. You should be digitally proficient, with experience using Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Skype. Familiarity with emerging technologies, including the Internet of Things, machine learning, and cybersecurity, is advantageous.
Strong interpersonal skills are crucial, as this role involves interacting with various stakeholders in a professional, considerate manner. The ability to diplomatically express your views and understand the impact of your actions on others is highly valued.
