Add expected salary to your profile for insightsThe Australian Banana Growers' Council (ABGC) is the national peak advocacy organisation for the banana industry.
The ABGC represents the interests of Australian banana growers on all issues crucial to the sustainability and profitability of growers.The ABGC has 21 employees, located in Brisbane (Rocklea), South Johnstone and northern NSW.In March 2015 Panama tropical race 4 (TR4) was detected in Tully – a major banana growing region in north Queensland.
Since this detection, the industry has been working with Biosecurity Queensland (BQ) to contain the spread of the disease.
TR4 is a soil-borne fungal disease that kills banana plants and if left unmanaged will devastate the Australian banana industry.Since 2015, BQ has led the government's response to contain the disease.
To date, the combined efforts of government and industry have contained the spread of the disease to only nine farms in the Tully Valley.
Over the last three years, the ABGC has worked closely with BQ to plan for a smooth transition of leadership and responsibility for the containment of TR4.POSITION PURPOSEABGC is seeking an experienced professional to coordinate administration and surveillance activities for the ABGC Panama TR4 Program.
Reporting to the Program Manager, the ABGC Surveillance Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of banana farm surveillance by ABGC field officers within specified timeframes.MAIN ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThe position will work proactively with the Senior Field Team Leader to coordinate surveillance and sampling activities in consultation with Program staff and other stakeholders, including booking travel for field staff as required.Liaise with external and internal stakeholders in a professional manner, establishing and maintaining clear and open lines of communication.Oversee and coordinate field Global Positioning System (GPS) data upload and management.Undertake the installation, operation, and maintenance of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) desktop applications including map creation and quality assurance.Prepare and produce GIS mapping for diagnostic results, update property survey maps and respond to ad hoc mapping requests as required.Undertake administrative duties to assist the program in meeting their operational objectives, including vehicle management, procurement, data management and correspondence tasks.QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCEThe successful candidate will be selected based on the following selection criteria:Experience managing competing priorities and ensuring tasks are completed within specified timeframes.Strong initiative, with a focus on high quality outcomes and attention to detail.Excellent communication skills including the ability to write reports and correspondence material.Experience engaging with a variety of stakeholders and the ability to adapt communication style and approach appropriate to the audience.Knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of, GPS data and GIS mapping.Strong administration skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.The successful applicant will also have a current 'C' class drivers' licence.Demonstrated experience in a project officer, coordinator or equivalent role will be highly regarded.REMUNERATION STRUCTURE AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENTSalary and conditions will be specified in an Employment Contract and will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the successful application, plus superannuation.Employees will be committed to the ABGC corporate policies, which include ethical conduct (including respect for others regardless of race, sex, etc and respect for confidentiality), workplace health and safety and motor vehicle use.The appointment of the successful/preferred candidate is subject to a satisfactory National Police Record Check.HOW TO APPLYTo apply for this role, you will need to submit the following documents:A cover letter (of no more than 2 pages), telling us why you are interested in this role and how your skills align with the required knowledge and experience outlined above.Previous workVoluntary or relevant experienceTwo referees who have personally observed you displaying the responsibilities required for this role.If more information is required or a copy of the Position Description, please contact the Program Manager on 0418 644 068 or email ****** application will include the following questions:Which of the following statements best describes your right to work in Australia?Do you have a current Police Check (National Police Certificate) for employment?How much notice are you required to give your current employer?Do you have a current Australian driver's licence?Do you own or have regular access to a car?
