In this hands-on role, you will lead, supervise, and work alongside a multi-skilled team of operational staff responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of vegetated assets across Lake Macquarie.
As a leader, you'll provide guidance, mentorship, and skill development within your team, ensuring high-quality maintenance and enhancement of our city's open spaces.
You will be joining a dedicated and committed team passionate about creating beautiful, well-maintained areas for the community to enjoy.
Your key focus areas are: Lead and supervise a team in the delivery of vegetation maintenance activities.
This includes prioritising, arranging and carrying out daily work activities, responding to service requests, ordering materials and consumables and maintaining appropriate work records.
Scheduling, monitoring and carrying out a variety of daily tasks associated with vegetation maintenance, including the operation and minor maintenance of plant and equipment, ordering materials and consumables, ordering and working with traffic control staff, completing works associated with service requests and other daily vegetation maintenance activities.
Provide leadership and guidance to team members through role modelling appropriate behaviours and standards, and carrying out on the job training.
Support the Coordinator in the efficient operation of the team.
This includes ensuring appropriate standards are adhered to, assisting in staff management, staff performance discussions, and reviews, reviewing and authorising time sheets, and providing operational input into leave requests.
Ensure a high level of customer service in all dealings with internal and external customers and stakeholders.
You are a dynamic, solution-focused leader with experience in the delivery and scheduling of vegetation maintenance.
As a self-motivated team player, you thrive in hands-on work and lead by example, demonstrating a strong commitment to safety and best practices.

You will have: Minimum certificate III in a relevant trade such as Horticulture, Parks and Gardens, Natural Resource Management, Turf Management or the like and/or commensurate relevant experience.
Experience in the use of small plant and other machinery relevant to the role such as ride on mowers, whipper snippers, chain saws, sprayers and truck and trailers.
Proven leadership, supervisory, interpersonal and communication skills.
Demonstrated commitment to delivering excellent frontline customer service through well-developed interpersonal and communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to work unsupervised, and lead and supervise a team including apprentices and contractors to carry out works to meet the required time frames and standards.
Demonstrated oral, numeracy, literacy and computer skills, including the use of field technology such as tablets as required.
