Supervisor, Security and Emergency Services Group (SESG) Join Corrections Victoria's security and emergency response unit Lead day-to-day operations and management of SESG specialist portfolios Work with a high-performing and passionate team Start on a base salary of $94,721 (excluding penalty rates) plus 7.5% allowance and 10% intermittent overtime allowance Five weeks annual leave About the business unit The Security and Emergency Services Group (SESG) provides security and emergency response services to Victoria's correctional system. SESG oversees many portfolios, including emergency and incident response, high security person escorts, state-wide training services, barrier control, search and canine services and the management of firearms.
About the role As a supervisor within SESG, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of assigned work areas, including (but not limited to) chemical agents, firearms, canines, occupational health and safety and human resources portfolios. You will play an integral role in the development, implementation, reinforcement and review of practices and procedures relating to SESG operations. You will actively lead working parties and reference groups, take responsibility for additional portfolios, participate in project teams and committees, and provide advice through written reports to senior management.
Some of your other duties will include: Effectively managing a team of custodial workers, delivering a range of security and emergency services across the correctional system. Optimising workplace productivity, while encouraging and supporting their personal and professional growth. Contributing to cultural reform, implementing best practice governance and workforce development to enable continued efficient and effective delivery of services. You will also be required to work flexible hours – including every second weekend and some public holidays – and attend to urgent work as required.
About you As an ideal candidate, you will possess:
Some understanding of SESG's operations and procedures or professional experience working in safety or security. A standard of fitness or the ability to attain a level of fitness that would withstand the physical demands of the role. Committed to high standards through strong team leadership. A working knowledge of the full range of Microsoft Windows and MS Office application suite. Qualifications you will need A full and current Victorian driver's licence, or a minimum P2 driver's licence. Prior to commencement you will be required to obtain a current Australian Statement of Attainment for the First Aid unit HLTAIDO11 Provide First Aid. All other required qualifications will be provided through SESG training. A Certificate III in Correctional Practice (Custodial) or similar is desirable. Recruitment process Candidates will be required to proceed through several recruitment stages to be successful. These stages are outlined below:
Pre-service health assessment. Reference checks. Pre-employment security checks. Physical assessments. Tests include cardio fitness, physical strength and endurance. Assessment centre. Attend a four-day assessment, which will include practical scenarios, as well as written and physical assessments. Attendees will not be paid but will be provided free accommodation and meals. The successful candidate will be required to undergo pre-employment checks, which may include reference checks, national police checks and misconduct screening.
