Reporting to the Manager, Exploration, the Supervisor, Finance & Administration is responsible for managing Teck Australia's financial and administrative systems while ensuring adherence to corporate policies and local regulatory requirements. Responsibilities include oversight of finance and accounting reporting requirements, budget management, tax filing, procurement of services, contract and commercial agreement management and management of some human resources related processes.
The Supervisor will be required to collaborate and work with the Accounting, Contracts and Human Resources functions of Teck Resources Limited (TRL) based in Vancouver and will be expected to maintain positive relationships with finance and administrative functions across TRL and within the Exploration & Geoscience (E&G) group.
\n ResponsibilitiesBe a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures Maintain an understanding of E&G's administrative and financial activities and lead all aspects of compliance with Teck's policies, code of conduct, and other corporate guidelinesLead all aspects of compliance with Australian national and regional requirements with respect to corporate governance, tax and other administrative regulations across all site and project locations in AustraliaMaintain TRL's Australian corporate entities in good standing with Australia's Corporations Act and collaborate closely with TRL personnel on corporate structure mattersAssist the Manager, Exploration in the preparation of annual budget proposals for Head Office, including operational and capital budgetsMaintain financial accounts for Teck's Australian entity and ensure compliance with TRL and Australian accounting standards. Maintain and manage documentation and records as required by TRL policy and Australian companies' law. Lead all aspects of operational cash requirements on a quarterly basisEnsure accurate and timely delivery of monthly financial reports in accordance with head office requirements. Ensure budget expenditures are re-forecasted monthly and provide counsel to the Manager, Exploration on budget trackingCompile business metrics (productivity, costs, etc) to advise exploration project planningLead and/or support procurement of services for exploration projects ensuring compliance with TRL and E&G legal, contractual and insurance processes and/or standardsManage and negotiate leases or purchase of equipment and/or premisesMaintain an agreement register and record and track administrative requirements with respect to active joint venture agreements in Australia and support the Manager, Exploration in ensuring compliance with any related responsibilitiesSupport Human Resources (HR) by keeping up-to-date employee records including but not limited to compensation, benefits, qualifications, training/development and work permit status if relevant. Assist HR personnel and the Manager, Exploration on HR initiatives as requiredAdministrate Teck's employee benefit program under the direction of the Manager, Exploration; Complete employee payroll on a monthly basisManage and mentor local administrative staff, and provide functional guidance to Exploration staff in administrative, financial, contractual and organization mattersAct as the main point of contact for communication with E&G's finance and administration team QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Finance, or Accounting or equivalent business experience and completed accounting designation8+ years of progressively senior experience with a small or medium sized enterprise or a division of a large corporation, preferably in mining or mineral explorationKnowledge of Australian tax requirements and companies law as they apply to Teck's activitiesSolid understanding of labor issues, finance, administration and logisticsKnowledge and understanding of analytical methods and concepts in accounting and finance and an ability to apply economic, accounting, financial and investment principles when dealing with wide range of business issues and challengesThe ability to interpret, audit, and integrate financial datasets, apply sound reasoning and analytical processes, develop financial models and complete risk assessmentProven track record to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams, external partners, service providers and other teams in order to build solid business relationshipsStrong written and verbal communication skills including presentation skills Strong digital literacy, in particular with MS Office suite and other common financial and accounting software as appropriateUnderstand how to set goals and prioritize tasks in order to achieve business resultsBuild a collaborative culture across all constituents and partners and encourages cooperation and open communicationStay current on industry events and legal environment applicable to labor, health and safety, community relations and exploration/mining in AustraliaUnderstands Teck's philosophy and approach to working with communities and conducts work practices accordinglyDemonstrates dedication to safety as a core value at Teck
