Exciting Role- Temporary, Full-time, Herston | The role is accountable for the scientific, operational, financial, and professional activities in the Serology Section at Pathology Queensland Central Laboratory and other metropolitan serology laboratories to achieve excellence in clinical output as required from a statewide referral laboratory.
The role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to lead the Serology unit in delivering high-quality diagnostic services. In this role, you will apply advanced scientific expertise to ensure the accuracy and reliability of reports, critically evaluate test results, and provide strategic scientific leadership. You will manage a dynamic team, fostering professional growth through equitable rostering, performance appraisals, and team-building initiatives. By upholding quality standards and safety policies, you will contribute to creating a safe and efficient workplace while ensuring compliance with NATA, ISO, TGA, and NPAAC standards.
As a key leader in the Serology unit, you will develop and implement service improvement initiatives and address complex scientific and workflow challenges across multiple laboratories. Your ability to mentor, train, and communicate effectively with stakeholders will be pivotal in driving innovation and maintaining the unit's reputation for excellence. Applicants must hold a tertiary degree in science with a major in microbiology and possess a comprehensive understanding of serological assays, instrumentation, and laboratory information systems.

Pathology Queensland (PQ) provides diagnostic pathology services to all Hospital and Health Services (HHS) across metro, regional and remote Queensland and plays a critical role in the government's response to public health threats, epidemics, and civil emergencies.
PQ offers laboratory services in the disciplines of anatomical pathology, chemical pathology, haematology, immunology, microbiology, and genomics. PQ also provides expert analysis, scientific testing, and advice to maintain and improve our public and environmental health, and to support the coronial system in Queensland.
