For an interim period between September 2024 to February 2025, South 32 will continue to provide recruitment services on behalf of IMC. We operate two underground metallurgical coal mines, two preparation plants and a logistics chain.

This role is a Permanent position based at the Appin mine which is near the coastal city of Wollongong, NSW, and approximately 75 kilometres southwest of Sydney. As the Superintendent Mechanical Engineering (Manager Mechanical Engineering), you will be responsible for managing underground mine mechanical engineering functions, ensuring adherence to Health & Safety Management systems and legislation, while providing expert and statutory guidance.
Other key responsibilities include, but aren't limited to:
Ensure statutory compliance for mechanical engineering (MEM) in line with NSW WHS (Mines and Petroleum) legislation and maintain current practising certificate.Develop, supervise, and review mechanical engineering standards and procedures for mining operations.Oversee installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical plant, ensuring all work meets safety and regulatory requirements.Manage mechanical records and audits, ensuring compliance with company policies and statutory requirements.Communicate mechanical safety requirements and updates to employees, and promptly address and rectify mechanical hazards and incidents.ABOUT YOU
You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:
Strong communication and influencing skills across all business levels.Proven experience managing geographically dispersed teams.Leadership experience in underground coal mining, including mechanical plant management.Effective contributor and decision-maker within multi-functional teams.Able to establish and maintain a safety oriented, high performance culture through effective development, mentoring and coaching.Qualifications for this position are: Certificate of competence to be a Mechanical Engineering Manager (MEM) of an underground coal mine.Practicing certificate to be a Mechanical Engineering Manager (MEM).Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering Australia recognised or MEM60 Advanced Diploma Mechanical Engineering or Associate Diploma Mechanical Engineering.IMC is committed to building and maintaining an inclusive and diverse workforce that reflects the communities in which we operate.
