The role of the Triage/First Aide support worker is to conduct initial assessments of students requiring level 2 first aid, promptly addressing any physical injuries or medical emergencies that may arise within the school premises. In addition to physical first aid, the worker also conducts preliminary screenings for mental health concerns among students. They engage in conversations to assess students' emotional well-being, identifying any signs of distress or mental health issues that may require intervention. The Triage/First Aid support worker serves as a frontline responder for both physical and mental health emergencies within the school environment.
The team consists of a Triage/First Aide Officer, Wellbeing Team Leader and experienced Counsellors.
Strong interpersonal skills are essential in effectively communicating with students, staff, families and visitors to the College. The worker fosters a supportive and empathetic environment, making students feel comfortable seeking assistance for both physical, emotional and mental health concerns.
An education support class position at this range will perform tasks that are carried out in accordance with guidelines, accepted practice, and school policy under supervision and direction. This may include coordination of other education support class staff within the work area or educational program.
An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students but must not include duties of a teacher as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students can be required individually or in groups up to 4 in controlled circumstances and where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.
Certification and/or qualifications of up to three years can be required at this level (noting that Registered Nurse is not included at this level, the first level for which is Level 1 range 3).
Responsibilities The Triage/First Aide position fulfils an important public relations and customer service function by being one of the first points of contact that the public may have with the College through the Wellbeing Centre & Sick Bay centers.
It is expected this position will be competent in the provision of up to date and relevant information. It is important this position operates in a consistent, professional, courteous, efficient manner at all times.

REPORTS TO This position works along side the Triage/First Aide Officer and has line management responsibilities to the to the Principal but on a day to day basis is accountable to the Wellbeing Team Leader and Assistant Principal who heads Wellbeing.
The Triage/First Aide support position is part of the Wellbeing Team, whose responsibility is to work co-operatively as part of the team, ensuring a productive, efficient workplace.
CLASSIFICATION CONTEXT AND TASK LEVEL · First Aid Level 2 CPR, Asthma management and Anaphylaxis management required
· Tasks typically involve following school policy with medication administration, providing immediate assistance for minor injuries and escalating more severe cases to higher-level medical professionals or emergency services.
Triage urgency with delivering care to students in need of support. Communicate and liaise with school staff with delivering support to students. Duty of care to ensure confidentiality of records is documented and maintained · Modifying work practices and procedures within the work area to meet routine operational requirements e.g. coordinating the day to operations of the Wellbeing & Sick Bay areas
PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS · First Aid Level 2, CPR, Asthma management and Anaphylaxis management required

TYPICAL FUNCTIONS Triage · Undertake initial needs identification for students.
· Manage and prioritise student appointments from external providers to the school.
· Work collaboratively as part of the Wellbeing Team.
· Facilitate access for students to the services they require in a timely way.
· Provide information to students about issues and options relevant to their social and health wellbeing.
· Liaise with the Wellbeing Team, Education staff and external services around student needs.
· Assess student eligibility and potential need for external services
· Food Bank Orders termly, and food preparation
· Shopping from Woolworths and Pharmacy as required.
· Supervise students who come to Wellbeing for food
Sick Bay · Provide and maintain support with staff and students through sick bay
· Record all student¿s attendance and management of sick bay support on school data platforms
· Comply with the College¿s policies and procedures
· Order and monitor sick bay stock
· Ensure first aide bags are stocked and checked, continuously being replenished with supplies as per policy
· Ensure wall charts are up to date for students with serious medical conditions and update yearly. Notify staff of students with serious conditions
· Provide support on school sports days with all first aid requirements such as epi pens, asthma and diabetic needs and urgent student medication
· Maintain a high level of cleanliness and hygiene in the First aid and Wellbeing environment, adhering to strict protocols and school policies to prevent the spread of infection including blood borne viruses
· Regularly replenishes supplies and disposes of medical waste properly to uphold cleanliness standards and mitigate health risks.
Administrative · Manages administrative tasks efficiently while handling first aid responsibilities, including answering calls, scheduling appointments, and maintaining records.
· Record all student¿s attendance to Wellbeing with internal and external appointments
· Liaise with line manager to undertake relevant staff professional development and training.
· Undertake other duties as requested by the Triage/First Aide Officer and/or Wellbeing Team Leader

Education Programs: In Years 7-10 students are able to participate in studies from all areas of VicCurric and where applicable the Australian Curriculum. At Year 7 there is a common curriculum which aims to develop the students' competence in literacy, numeracy, the arts and technology as a foundation for success in future studies. In Year 8 students continue with the core curriculum, whilst beginning their elective journey in the technology, the arts and languages area.
In Year 9 students participate in PhoenIX which has student centred inquiry-based learning at the heart of this innovative program. At Year 10 students enjoy an extensive program of semester units which provide diversity, challenge and the opportunity to pursue studies of particular individual interest. The VCE timetable aligns with Year 10 units allowing for advanced study if desired. Students are also able to participate in educational extension and enhancement programs in addition to their normal studies. Students interested in vocational education can opt into the VCAL foundation stream, with the opt-in option of VET being included in their timetable.
The College is accredited to teach the SEAL program and is a founding member of the academy of accredited SEAL schools. Students who enter this gifted and talented program must complete testing in Year 6. 
In Years 9 and 10 students are introduced to the broad range of services available from the Careers Centre and they are encouraged to use this facility in planning for future studies or in preparing for entry to the workforce. 
The College also has a select entry Sporting Pathways Program. Students enter this program via an application process and successful completion of peak fitness and physio testing. The SPP program runs from year 7-10.
Student achievement at the VCE and VCAL level is outstanding at Warrnambool College. An extensive range of units are offered from mainstream academic studies through to Vocational Education and Training courses in areas such as Automotive, Building, Community Services, Engineering, Electro technology, Beauty, Plumbing, and Hospitality. 
The College offers the Victorian Certificate of Applied Education at the Foundation, Intermediate and Senior level. Our College recognises the diverse needs and aspirations of senior students and offers a curriculum that maximises their opportunity for entry into further studies, apprenticeships or career paths.
A thorough careers counselling process is a feature of our school¿s program which is aimed at meeting the specific needs of each VCE student. Student success at the VCE level is a major objective of our College.
