Be part of something more.A bit about the roleThe student Town Planner role will provide essential technical and administrative support to both the Town Planning and Strategic Planning teams within the Planning and Liveability Directorate.Two student planners will share this role, with one working in the Town Planning team and the other in the Strategic Planning team. After six months, the student planners will rotate to the respective team, allowing each student to gain experience across both teams.The role offers a practical introduction to land use planning in a growing council area, with opportunities to participate in the assessment of planning permits, the preparation of planning advice, and other related tasks in accordance with state and local planning policies.What you'll deliverAssist with the assessment and preparation of planning permits and advice in line with the Wyndham Planning Scheme and relevant legislation.Support Council Officers at VCAT hearings, including assisting with the preparation of written submissions.Provide excellent customer service, delivering advice both in person, over the phone and in writing in accordance with the Council's Customer Service Charter.Conduct research on urban planning and development to support decision-making processes.Deliver accurate written reports and verbal advice on statutory planning matters.What you'll bringStrong communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective interaction with clients, colleagues, and the public.Proficiency in relevant computer technology and the ability to apply planning regulations in practical situations.Well-developed research and problem-solving skills.Working towards a tertiary qualification in Urban Planning, Environmental Studies, or a related discipline.Basic knowledge of the legislative requirements of the Planning and Environment Act and the Wyndham Planning Scheme.A continuous improvement mindset with a positive, proactive, and flexible attitude.What's next?If you think this role might be for you, we want to hear from you.
