This role is open to both junior and senior candidates, providing an excellent opportunity for candidates at various stages of their career.Position Overview:As a Structural Steel Estimator, you will be responsible for preparing cost estimates for structural steel fabrication projects.
This position is ideal for trade-qualified candidates looking to transition into an estimation role or for experienced estimators ready to take on more responsibility.
You will work closely with senior estimators, project managers, and clients to ensure accurate and competitive estimates for projects ranging from commercial builds to large-scale infrastructure.Key Responsibilities:Prepare accurate cost estimates for structural steel projects, covering materials, labor, and other associated costs.Review and interpret project plans, structural drawings, and technical specifications to determine scope and requirements.Collaborate with suppliers, subcontractors, and internal teams to gather and validate pricing information.Contribute to tender submissions and ensure that estimates are competitive and comprehensive.Assist in identifying potential cost-saving opportunities while maintaining quality standards.Maintain and update records of estimates, budgets, and project cost histories.Monitor and track project costs during execution, ensuring adherence to budgets.Supervise and mentor junior estimators (for senior candidates), providing guidance and training as needed.Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory requirements throughout the estimation process.Skills & Experience:Junior Candidates:Trade qualification in structural steel fabrication, welding, or a related field (preferred).1-2 years of experience or exposure to estimating, ideally in the structural steel or construction industry.Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication processes and materials.Ability to read and interpret structural steel drawings and technical specifications.Eagerness to learn, develop, and grow within the estimation field.Senior Candidates:5+ years of experience in structural steel estimation with a focus on large-scale projects.A trade qualification in structural steel fabrication, welding, or a related field (essential).In-depth knowledge of structural steel fabrication processes, materials, and industry standards.Proven ability to lead estimation teams, review and interpret structural steel drawings, and manage large tenders.Strong communication, leadership, and negotiation skills.Proficiency with estimation software (e.g., CostX, ProEst) and Microsoft Excel.Qualifications:Trade qualification in Structural Steel Fabrication, Welding, or a related field (essential for all candidates).Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Construction, or a related field (preferred but not essential).Certification or training in estimating (preferred).Benefits:Competitive salary based on experience.Opportunities for career development, training, and advancement in a national company.A supportive and collaborative work environment with hands-on training for junior candidates.Work on high-profile, large-scale projects within the structural steel industry.This role offers a unique opportunity for both junior and senior estimators to further their careers in structural steel estimation.
