Job Description Maribyrnong Sports Academy (MSA) is the sporting specialist school supporting more than 550 talent identified student-athletes. MSA has 14 main sport programs and employs a team of over 70 coaches, teachers, fellow strength and conditioning coaches, sports nutrition, performance psychology, and administration staff with International, National, and State elite sport experience. It is important to note that the MSA program is an individual development program aimed at developing individual student-athletes to reach their potential academically and athletically. Winning school sport competitions is not an objective of the program.
We are seeking applications for a Strength & Conditioning Coach in a full-time role for approximately 12 months. The successful applicant will operate within the High-Performance Preparation (HPP) timetabled subject and provide Strength & Conditioning (S&C) support before or after school for the student athletes. This role will involve working collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team inclusive of fellow S&C coaches, rehabilitation staff, and physiotherapists to provide expertise in the development and delivery of quality S&C services to MSA student athletes. Further to S&C being delivered to student athletes, performance psychology and sports nutrition education and support are provided.
This role requires highly developed coaching skills, specifically excellent communication and instructional skills while developing relationships and maintaining engagement with the student athletes within the daily training environment. A sound knowledge of LTAD training principles for the adolescent student athlete is essential to develop quality S&C programming for the student athletes at MSA.
RESPONSIBILITIES Develop and effectively deliver quality strength & conditioning services to MSA student athletes for specific cohorts or individuals. Collect and maintain S&C physical performance testing data including maintaining a database to develop individual physical performance profiles. Become proficient in utilizing sport science technology to integrate within the daily training environment. Develop rapport and relationships with adolescent student athletes while providing an engaging daily training environment. Assist in the delivery of the MSA Strength & Conditioning Internship to annually assist an individual to gain invaluable practical coaching experience within a Long Term Athletic Development daily training environment. Monitor new developments and latest research in the field of strength & conditioning, particularly related to adolescent athletes. Establish and maintain strong professional relationships and communication with all key stakeholders and associations by attending regular meetings to discuss the progress of individuals and teams regarding performance, conditioning, injury prevention, and return to play. Work collaboratively and as part of the S&C team to ensure the college adopts cutting-edge practices in athlete preparation, coaching, planning, and evaluating S&C services. Encourage a harmonious team environment by liaising with all team members, medical and well-being staff, coaches, college staff, and parents. SELECTION CRITERIA Demonstrated ability to develop effective strength & conditioning programs using training principles and methodologies with a Long-Term Athletic Development focus. Demonstrated experience working within a Sports Institute / Academy and/or High-Performance setting, particularly with adolescent athletes. Established coaching skills inclusive of excellent communication, instructional skills, voice projection, developing rapport/relationships, and developing an engaging daily training environment. Ability to work in a collaborative environment and possess a high level of initiative bringing in concepts to improve the HPP program. Strength & Conditioning Qualifications: An appropriate degree in sports science or a degree majoring in exercise and sports science or similar study area (mandatory). ASCA Level 2 (strength and conditioning) qualification or similar (desirable).
