Where a non-ongoing specified term is offered, this would be for an initial period of up to 12 months, with possibility of extension up to a maximum period of two years. A non-ongoing offer may result in conversion to an ongoing offer of employment, however this must occur within 18 months from the opening date of this advertisement. Flexible Work Flexible working arrangements will be considered The Opportunity The Northern Territory Strategy and Policy (NTSP) Branch works with policy and program divisions to deliver NIAA programs and priorities in the Northern Territory. We support strategic engagement with government and non-government partners for economic development, children and families reforms, food security, broadcasting and media, and service delivery coordination and collaboration. As an NTSP team member your day might consist of drafting a policy briefing to the Minister's Office or NIAA senior executive, providing advice on how to apply the Closing the Gap framework to initiatives, and partnering with Northern Territory stakeholders to deliver community and government priorities. We are seeking several highly motivated, collaborative and creative skilled officers. Positions are available at both APS6 and EL1 levels across NTSP teams: The Food Security Policy team is responsible for food security in remote First Nations communities including the Remote Food Security Strategy, Remote Food Security Working Group and relationship with Outback Stores Pty Ltd. The Broadcasting, Languages and ABA Homelands team is responsible for the Indigenous Broadcasting and Media Program, interpreter services policy and the Aboriginals Benefit Account Homelands Project. The NT Strategic Partnerships team is responsible for jobs and economic development, Closing the Gap initiatives and regional and place-based solutions. The Northern Territory Remote Aboriginal Investment (NTRAI) team is responsible for the NTRAI, community-led alcohol treatment services, alcohol data monitoring and policing. The Partnerships Design team is responsible for the NTRAI Joint Standing Committee secretariat and future NTRAI arrangements. Some travel to Darwin may be required. Duties will include: facilitating the provision of expert analysis and business intelligence to the leadership team to achieve outcomes for NIAA, stakeholders and partners preparing or contributing to preparation of reports, briefs or other documents to provide strategic and evidence-based advice to NIAA senior executives and Ministers actively building and maintaining productive relationships and inclusive networks through collaboration with providers, partners and stakeholders researching, critically analysing and responding to complex enquiries. At the EL1 level, additional duties include: recommending strategic directions for work areas and considering wider agency implications when making decisions building capability in your team through coaching others, providing performance feedback, conflict resolution and encouraging career development utilising in-depth knowledge of and compliance with legislative, financial and administrative frameworks, government decision-making processes and agency guidelines and regulations. Our Ideal Candidate Our ideal APS6 Strategy and Analysis Senior Officer candidates will demonstrate: excellent policy and strategic thinking skills, including the ability to deliver for Government in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce high quality written work with attention to detail good judgement and demonstrated political nous, with the ability to provide quality advice and resolve complex issues compliance with a healthy and safe workplace environment, modelling ethical behaviour in accordance with the APS Code of Conduct and APS Values. In addition to the above, our ideal EL1 Strategy and Analysis Assistant Director candidates will demonstrate: an understanding of the NIAA's broad strategic environment and ability to build a sense of collective purpose and direction to support the delivery of outcomes in line with NIAA priorities excellent stakeholder management skills, with the capacity to effectively manage relationships with internal and external partners to promote the NIAA's business objectives through key strategic relationships the ability to work strategically with a considerable degree of independence to manage and monitor work, including taking responsibility for related outcomes, and driving quality assurance and continuous improvement practices leadership, including experience supervising staff and overseeing professional development, coaching and mentoring the ability to foster a culturally safe environment and influence team members to model ethical behaviours in accordance with the APS Code of Conduct and APS values.
