Examples of the impact you could make include:
Working with our Pacific partners to improve regional security. Gathering government and open-source data to analyse applications to advise whether activities will affect Australia's national interests. Preparing the Minister to conduct talks with international counterparts on Defence strategic policies or military engagement. Working with the Australian Defence Force to provide policy guidance for operations. No two days would be the same, guiding your team's work, mentoring your team members, conducting meetings to support and influence stakeholders, briefing Defence's Senior Leadership, consulting with other Government agencies, engaging foreign government stakeholders and the public or contributing to corporate change.

Strategy, Policy, and Industry Group is a fully integrated civilian-military workforce, drawing on high-quality and motivated people from diverse backgrounds and academic disciplines who embody Defence and Australian Public Service values.
We offer flexible working arrangements and a range of formal and informal professional development opportunities. While we offer a high degree of flexibility in the way we work, each position is located in Canberra. As such, successful applicants from outside Canberra would need to relocate to Canberra if successful.

Our Ideal Candidate
An ideal candidate for a SP&I policy role should possess a strong background in research and analysis, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and practiced leadership and people skills.
They should also demonstrate critical thinking abilities, sound judgement with an innovative approach to problem solving, and the capacity to collaborate and develop strong relationships with diverse stakeholders. Experience in policy development, implementation, and evaluation would be highly beneficial.
