The Opportunity As a Statutory Urban Planner in the City of Perth, you will effectively and lawfully administer the provisions and requirements of the City Planning Scheme and related planning and development statutes and policies.
This position provides technical advice, support and recommendations to the Council, internal customers and external customers in relation to a range of town planning matters.
Reporting to the Principal Urban Planner within our Development Approvals team, your responsibilities would primarily include: Process straight forward to moderately complex applications for development, subdivision and other approvals.
Prepare correspondence and provide advice in response to statutory urban planning enquires.
Prepare, review and monitor statutory planning provisions and policies.
Provide specialist advice to other officers within the Unit including other Planning Officers with regard to the Council's statutory planning requirements.
Assist in the training/mentoring of temporary/contract Planners to the extent of providing advice and guidance on legislative requirements and interpretations, inspection processes and procedures required as part of the Statutory Planner role.
About You To succeed in this role, you will possess: Considerable experience in statutory urban planning including the processing of simple to moderately complex applications for development and subdivision.
Knowledge and understanding of the legislative responsibility and processes that relate to urban planning and local government.
Ability to effectively plan, organise and manage own time and workload, to achieve specific outcomes within set timeframes against conflicting priorities.
Well-developed written and verbal communication skills and the ability to present and negotiate effectively with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
