The Opportunity As a Statutory Urban Planner in the City of Perth, you willeffectively and lawfully administer the provisions and requirementsof the City Planning Scheme and related planning and developmentstatutes and policies. This position provides technical advice,support and recommendations to the Council, internal customers andexternal customers in relation to a range of town planningmatters.
Reporting to the Principal Urban Planner within our DevelopmentApprovals team, your responsibilities would primarily include:
Process straight forward to moderately complex applicationsfor development, subdivision and other approvals.Prepare correspondence and provide advice in response tostatutory urban planning enquires.Prepare, review and monitor statutory planning provisionsand policies.Provide specialist advice to other officers within the Unitincluding other Planning Officers with regard to the Council'sstatutory planning requirements.Assist in the training/mentoring of temporary/contractPlanners to the extent of providing advice and guidance onlegislative requirements and interpretations, inspectionprocesses and procedures required as part of the StatutoryPlanner role.About You To succeed in this role, you will possess:
Considerable experience in statutory urban planningincluding the processing of simple to moderately complexapplications for development and subdivision.Knowledge and understanding of the legislativeresponsibility and processes that relate to urban planning andlocal government.Ability to effectively plan, organise and manage own timeand workload, to achieve specific outcomes within settimeframes against conflicting priorities.Well-developed written and verbal communication skills andthe ability to present and negotiate effectively with a diverserange of internal and external stakeholders.Above all, you will live our values of Commitment, Teamwork,Courage and Respect that allow us to come together to lead andsupport the community.
