Wodonga Middle Years College caters for 1,000 students in Years 7 to 9 on three campuses.
Role The Youth Engagement Officer provides individual support to young adolescent students and embeds inclusiveness into the wider school community to ensure students and parents have a sense of belonging to the College and can practice student agency on behalf of themselves and others. The position aims to assist students in 4 key areas throughout their education and as they move from one school to another: welcoming, integrating, absence support, and farewelling.
Support students to develop and practice self-confidence, resilience, and agency. Strengthen students' sense of belonging to the College and the wider community. Improve retention and increase educational opportunities for students. Raise aspiration through promoting post school options. Create a strong home/school connection and foster positive relationships. Promote reconciliation and inclusiveness through targeted initiatives and activities. Provide culturally appropriate support to all students at the College. Foster a supportive learning environment for students, staff, and families. Responsibilities Assist parents and students to become familiar with the school and its facilities. Coordinate appropriate welcoming and farewelling activities for students. Organise and carry out meaningful activities that raise awareness throughout the school year. Monitor student engagement and attendance through regular liaison with teachers, house leaders, and other key staff. Work collaboratively with parents to facilitate positive home/school relationships. Support students with planning and balancing academic requirements. Work with young people and families to create Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students. Ensure visibility of the Youth Engagement Officer program within the school. Promote a positive and secure environment through appropriate programs. Develop community partnerships to strengthen student wellbeing. Work within the whole school community to support students and their families. Plan, develop, deliver, and evaluate support services that facilitate the educational, social, and emotional development of students. Provide guidance and support in the area of student welfare and resilience. Engage students and their families to broker meaningful relationships. Selection Criteria SC1 Appropriate qualifications and/or demonstrated relevant experience. SC2 Demonstrated ability to empathise and work with young adolescents. SC3 High level of communication skills both oral and written. SC4 High level of cultural appropriateness and respect for diversity. SC5 Demonstrated skills in advocacy and negotiations. SC6 Demonstrated ability to organise own work, set priorities, and meet deadlines. SC7 Ability to plan, organise, evaluate, and deliver innovative programs.
