The Game Management Authority (GMA) is an independent statutory authority responsible for the regulation of game hunting in Victoria. It delivers programs to improve and promote sustainable and responsible hunting in Victoria.
The GMA is responsible for:
Issuing Game Licences and related testing; Managing open and closed seasons for game species; Enforcing game hunting laws and taking action against those who do not hunt legally; Educating and informing hunters on how to hunt legally and responsibly in Victoria. Senior Game Officer Ongoing role Usual hours of work: Full Time (flexibility may be available) Usual work location: Ballarat (flexibility may be available) This is a prioritised position for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in accordance with the Special Measures provision of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010 (Vic). The Team The position of Senior Game Officer forms a part of the Compliance and Intelligence division within the Game Management Authority (GMA).
GMA delivers programs to improve and promote sustainable and responsible game hunting in Victoria. The Compliance and Intelligence Division is responsible for improving compliance with hunting laws and regulations.
The Role Senior Game Officers (SGOs) deliver high-quality community-centred game hunting compliance services within a state segment (Eastern or Western Victoria), while also contributing to state-wide service delivery.
The responsibilities of the Senior Game Officer will include:
Delivering game compliance services across the compliance spectrum to the regional community as part of the broader state-wide compliance program. Maintaining good working relationships with community stakeholders and partner agencies, including Victoria Police, Parks Victoria, Victorian Fisheries Authority, Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) and Traditional Owner Corporations. Providing advice and educational services, making presentations at stakeholder meetings/gatherings, and attending relevant shows and exhibitions. About You The successful candidate will ideally have the following skills and experience:
Mandatory requirements include a qualification as an Authorised Officer Basic (Legal 1) or equivalent and a current Victorian Diver's Licence. Highly developed interpersonal skills and sound judgement. The ability to assess the situation and make appropriate and informed decisions. Highly developed ability to build and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders or groups.
