We are seeking a Manager, Specialist Inspections who will play a key leadership role, to a team of field-based inspectors that provide specialist support to the VBA in response to the Government's 10-year Housing Policy Statement with a focus on Class 2 buildings.
Ongoing, full-time position Salary from: $152,773 per annum plus superannuation
Location: 242 Exhibition Street Melbourne office location & remote

The Manager, Specialist Inspections manages a highly experienced team of field-based multidisciplinary building and plumbing inspectors who are focused on complex and/or specialised and/or priority cases (including Class 2 buildings). The focus of the role is to lead and develop a team of technical specialists who undertake field-based activities to support the VBA's regulatory requirements and engage with practitioners to improve industry and enforce regulatory compliance.
Reporting to the Head of Inspectorate, the Manager, Specialist Inspections will be critical in workforce planning, prioritisation, and effective delegation ensuring this multi-disciplinary team can be quickly mobilised and tactically deployed where the risk is high, and the need is greatest, to establish the VBA as a trusted regulator and to ensure practitioners deliver quality and compliant work that will protect consumers.
The Manager, Specialist Inspections will provide specialist support to focus areas and ensure the team functions effectively support the VBA's response to the Government's 10-year Housing Policy Statement with a focus on Class 2 buildings.
What we are looking for: Substantial experience to manage, lead and develop teams of geographically dispersed field-based Plumbing and Building Inspectors performing audits and inspections. Experience in the building and/or plumbing industry and an advanced knowledge of the Building and Plumbing Regulations 2018, regulatory frameworks, codes, regulation standards, and Government Policy in Victoria and/or other Australian jurisdictions, including experience in the practical application of relevant legislation and regulations. Demonstrated extensive experience in conducting site inspections and audits in a regulatory environment including on Class 2 apartment buildings, or management of field-based, or technical services teams within a building, or plumbing regulatory environment or compliance and enforcement operations. Ability to produce high-level technical correspondence, briefs, and reports in line with relevant legislation and participate in working groups to provide authoritative technical advice and knowledge to influence regulatory reform. Experience in developing beneficial partnerships, including liaising with building industry stakeholders and technical specialists through participating in technical knowledge sharing within the context of regulatory requirements.
