STAFF SPECIALIST PAEDIATRICIAN | AUSTRALIA CAPITAL CITY
Our client, a Major Public Hospital in Australia's Capital City is looking for a Staff Specialist Paediatrician to join their team.
FAST FACTS: A Capital City with outstanding amenities and excellent housing, educational and leisure opportunities.A modern 600-bed tertiary hospital providing trauma services and most major medical and surgical sub-specialty servicesThe preferred candidate may be considered for a conjoint position in ANU at an academic level commensurate with the candidate's qualifications and experienceHome to national icons and monuments as well as natural treasuresThe positions: Paediatrics at the Hospital can cater for up to 50 inpatients, and has an active medical and surgical day stay and clinical investigation unit, and a busy and growing outpatient department.
There is also a tertiary accredited Level 5 NICU.
The hospital also offers subspecialty paediatric care in areas of Paediatric Respiratory Medicine, Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes and Paediatric Surgery.
The Outpatient department includes a range of multidisciplinary clinics and is actively supported by staff specialists and visiting consultants from Canberra and from Paediatric tertiary hospitals in Sydney.
There is a Paediatric Surgical Unit that performs a wide range of paediatric and neonatal surgery and is an accredited paediatric surgical training centre.
The emergency department for the Canberra Hospital sees over 18,000 paediatric presentations per year and is accredited with the RACP for paediatric basic training and ACEM training.
The department has an FRACP training program with a paediatric fellow, 10 registrars, 6 SRMO positions and 5 PGY2 positions.
They regularly have candidates undertaking the DCH in preparation for RACP or RACGP training.
There is an active junior doctor programme which is producing quality trainees interested in continuing in paediatrics.
Involvement in departmental teaching is required and research is encouraged and supported.
The preferred applicant may be considered for a conjoint appointment in The Australian National University at an academic level commensurate with the applicant's qualifications and experience.
The academic appointment will be held for the duration of the Health Services appointment and will be subject to regular performance reviews.
No remuneration is attached to the University position.
The appointee will be responsible to the University on academic matters and to (the Hospital) for (research/clinical) matters.
Duties Manage the diagnosis, treatment and discharge planning for inpatients referred to the Paediatric Service.Conduct outpatient clinics to provide continuity of care for discharged and long-term patients.Liaise with all members of the multidisciplinary clinical team to maximise patient care and treatment outcomes.Participate in the general paediatric on call roster (1 week in 4 to 1 week in 6).Contribute to the education and training of all members of the multidisciplinary clinical team and participate in the training of junior medical staff.Contribute to the teaching program of the ANU Medical School under the broad direction of the Director of Paediatric Undergraduate education, Dean or delegate and contribute to research in areas of medical interest related to the clinical practice or science of Paediatrics.Contribute to the clinical governance of the Paediatric Unit and the Hospital by undertaking clinical audit, morbidity and mortality review and practicing evidence-based medicine and contribute to the strategic direction and service development initiatives within the paediatric services and the WYC Division.Undertaking other duties as directed, within the approved scope of clinical practice ensuring the delivery of high-quality person and family centred, safe and high-quality patient care.
