The Department of Maternal Fetal Medicine/Obstetrics at The Royal Hospital for Women (RHW) is pleased to announce our opening for a Subspecialist in Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) with a particular interest in the management of both uncomplicated and complicated twin pregnancies, and laser for twin to twin transfusion.
We are particularly interested in speaking to junior subspecialists or those who are currently, or soon to be completing, their certification in maternal fetal medicine.
The RHW established a Multiple Pregnancy Clinic in 2009 and it is expected that the successful applicant will take over the Multiple Pregnancy Clinic.
The NSW Fetal Therapy unit is based at the Royal Hospital for Women and is where most of the lasers for twin-to-twin transfusion are undertaken in NSW.
It is expected that the applicant will have experience in laser for twin-to-twin transfusion and will participate in the on-call roster for this service.
The MFM unit has a close relationship with associated specialties including obstetric medicine, genetics, neonatology, fetal cardiology, perinatal pathology, and paediatric surgery, making this an ideal working environment for good clinical care.
The Department of Maternal Fetal Medicine comprises 5 part-time MFM subspecialists, 1.8 full-time equivalent genetic counsellor, 2 part-time geneticists, two full-time midwives and a maternal fetal medicine midwifery group practice.
There are two MFM fellows.
The department has 2 ultrasound machines and Viewpoint reporting system.
There is an active research culture within the department and training of MFM subspecialist fellows.
The successful candidate may be eligible for a conjoint appointment to the Prince of Wales Clinical School with the UNSW Faculty of Medicine.
The level of the appointment will be determined by qualifications and experience.
The application must be dedicated to a teamwork philosophy and be able to demonstrate their ability to work as a team member within the facility.
The specialist will provide expert medical assessment and management of patients within the department/service.

The primary location of this position may be varied as agreed with the Director of Medical Services and as approved by MDAAC to other facilities in SESLHD.

Candidate to provide AHPRA Registration Number on application.Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and/or equivalent specialist recognition as provided for by the Health Insurance Act 1973 and Staff Specialist (State) Award, and demonstrated subspecialty training and qualifications in Maternal Fetal Medicine e.g.
CMFM.Evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position.Proven capacity and/or experience in the provision of effective high quality Obstetrics and Maternal Fetal Medicine services, demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position including evidence of participation in quality improvement activities relevant to the specialty; experience in caring for women with complicated twin pregnancies.Demonstrated commitment to teaching with experience in teaching both undergraduate and post graduate students and other staff of the hospital.Demonstrate the skills and attitudes appropriate as a senior Medical Practitioner including modelling a high standard of professional behaviour to junior medical staff.Demonstrated ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and staff and to work as an effective member of the clinical team across multiple sites.
Demonstrated commitment to provision of a high standard of clinical care in the public sector setting.Demonstrated experience in and commitment to research relevant to the role and needs of the Department.This is a Category A position.
