Staff Specialist in Paediatric Neurology John Hunter Children's Hospital Permanent Part Time 0.8 FTE (commencing February 2025) Apply via eCredential Applications are invited from qualified Paediatric Neurologists to join our dedicated team at John Hunter Children's Hospital, and the Children's Healthcare Network – Northern. John Hunter Children's Hospital, located in Newcastle, New South Wales, is a leading tertiary paediatric facility known for providing specialised care to children and adolescents. It is part of the Hunter New England Local Health District and operates as a major teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Newcastle.
About the role: Provide consultative paediatric neurology services to John Hunter Children's Hospital, including the Emergency Department, Paediatric Intensive Care Unit, and other hospitals within HNELHD and the Children's Healthcare Network – Northern. Manage inpatients with neurological conditions at John Hunter Children's Hospital. Contribute to ambulatory clinic services at John Hunter Children's Hospital and other locations. Work with a dedicated Multidisciplinary Team consisting of specialists, nurses, and allied health professionals, ensuring comprehensive and coordinated care for patients. We are committed to family-centered care, aiming to support and involve families in the care process to improve outcomes and patient experiences. We are involved in community outreach programs and provide support to regional and rural hospitals within our local health district and the broader Children's Healthcare Network – Northern. Essential Skills and Qualifications: Primary medical degree registrable with AHPRA. Fellowship of the RACP including training and qualifications in Paediatric Neurology. Recent and extensive experience in Paediatric Neurology. Expertise in tertiary epilepsy management. In-depth knowledge of normal paediatric development and a comprehensive understanding of paediatric medicine. Expertise in EEG reporting is mandatory. Familiarity with NCV/EMG services is optional. Strong understanding of genetics is highly desirable.
