Location ProfileSunbury and Macedon Ranges Specialist School is a dual mode school with two campuses, a campus in Sunbury and a second campus in Bullengarook. Currently we have 275 students enrolled across both campuses. Approximately 45% of our students have a diagnosis of autism combined with an intellectual disability. Additionally, many students have other diagnoses, which may include physical disabilities, social and emotional disorders, vision and hearing impairments, and complex medical needs. We are dedicated to empowering students with intellectual disabilities by fostering their independence through the development of social skills, communication, and mobility.
Selection CriteriaSC1. Demonstrate knowledge, experience and skill in delivering an engaging communication program of Speech Pathology Services, across an age range of 5 years to 18 years and with a wide range of abilities, in the area of Special Education.
SC2. Demonstrated ability to use a range of communication aides and devices including up-to-date technologies.
SC3. Demonstrated capacity to work effectively in collaboration with teaching teams to devise programs that establish and extend a student's functional communication and social skills in a range of contexts.
SC4. Demonstrate a high level of communication skills and professional behaviour when interacting with parents, students and colleagues.
SC5. Qualification in Speech Pathology and eligibility for membership of Speech Pathology Australia.
SC6. Demonstrated commitment and experience in the field of Special Education.
RoleSuccessful applicant may be required to work at either the Sunbury Campus (Primary) or the Bullengarook Campus (Secondary). Start and finish times can be flexible and discussed upon appointment. The Speech Pathologist will be part of the Therapy Services Team (Occupational Therapist, Music Therapist, and Allied Health Assistants) to meet the diverse needs of students across both campuses. Therapy services provision is coordinated by the therapy services team which meets weekly to link a range of consultant therapists to students and their families, using flexible and responsive approaches that effect positive changes for students who have mobility, language/communication difficulties or require independence training. Direct service delivery may be provided on a one-to-one basis for high needs students or to small groups of students with similar needs. More often, direct services are supervised and monitored programs managed by school support staff and teaching staff, with regular hands-on support, input and guidance from Consultant Therapists.
In summary, the successful applicant will need to be able to:
Plan and develop the speech pathology provision in the school as part of the whole school provision of therapy services to students with moderate and multiple disabilities.Evaluate the impact of the speech pathology provision, both in terms of the quality of impact on the individual student and the overall effectiveness of the resource and make recommendations from the findings.Provide empathetic support to and facilitate communications with a wide range of students with disabilities and their families.Conduct professional development sessions as requested by the school/teachers.Manage the Speech Pathology Budget and the ordering and distribution of student resources.ResponsibilitiesManage the work practices and priorities of support staff in a school/s.Manage the maintenance of confidentiality in respect to all school records and communication systems.Who May ApplyIndividuals with the aptitude, experience and/or qualifications to fulfill the specific requirements of the position.
