Specialised Youth Mentor

Details of the offer

Location: Armidale
Position Type: Casual
Service: Non-Placement Support
Do you want to be a part of a team to make a difference in the life of young people?
Have you developed a skill set that would positively impact the lives of young people?
We are looking for passionate and empathetic people from a vast range of professions who are looking to share their valuable knowledge with young people who may not have had the opportunity to explore these skills.
Examples of skillsets could include but are not limited to the following: nurses, teachers, builders, sport coaches, artists, musicians, personal trainers, chefs, horticulturalists, and many other fields.
We are currently looking for casual NPSS Specialised Youth Mentors to work within our Non-Placement Support Services and Casework Support Services based in Armidale, to deliver specialised mentoring to vulnerable youth in their area of interest. Hours will be on an "as needed" basis.
The aim of the Specialised Youth Mentor Program is to deliver specialised mentoring to vulnerable young people in their interest area. This program offers a unique approach as it has been tailored specifically to support young people who have experienced significant trauma. Specialised Youth Mentors will use their experience and knowledge to teach and encourage young people to develop their skills in an area that aligns with the mentor's own interest and skill set.
Specialised Youth Mentors will develop a plan with the Young People that will outline their goals and the steps to achieve these. Mentors will use their knowledge to create a safe space for Young People to not only achieve these goals, but to overcome any obstacles or setbacks along their journey.
This Program is a fee-for-service brokerage partnership with the Department of Communities and Justice and other Non-Government Organisations (NGOs). Community Services contract Pathfinders to provide a range of services to children and young people in Out of Home Care (OoHC) and their families through Individual Client Arrangements.
The successful applicants will need to have a strong commitment to privacy and maintain strict confidentiality standards. Report writing is also mandatory.
The NPSS Specialised Youth Mentor will require knowledge and understanding of the issues that affect Aboriginal communities, societies, and cultures in NSW. Willingness to advocate on behalf of Aboriginal young people and their families in providing cultural support and services to Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal children, young people, and families is essential.
This position is Level 4 under the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Modern Award ("the SCHDSI Award").
All applications must include the following components:

Please download the job package to apply for this position.
Applicants who do not provide all of the above will not be considered for an interview.
Applications should be lodged by email to ****** and should be addressed to the Human Resource Manager.
Pathfinders is committed to being a safe environment for children and young people and is a mandatory reporting Organisation.
Pathfinders is a non-smoking workplace and is committed to the principles and practices of Equal Opportunity and Cultural Diversity.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are also strongly encouraged to apply.
