The Chambers is located in Cairns City in a historic building filled with original character and a friendly atmosphere. We offer breakfast and lunch 7 days a week and open in the evenings for private functions and events. Our most recent area of growth is BOXD catering by The Chambers. Our food and offering are paramount to our success, and we are seeking the right person to take ownership of our events and catering arm.
We're looking for an experienced Sous Chef - Events and Catering with a strong work ethic, creativity, and knowledge across a variety of cuisines. Your hands-on approach will make you a successful leader and team player. You will report directly to our Head Chef and work closely with both back and front of house. Exceptional communication and organisational skills are essential.
This full-time role involves a 40-hour work week across all events, with occasional support required in the café. The role spans a 5-day work week, including weekends due to the nature of the work.

The Chambers is an established café in Cairns City with a focus on tasty brunch and delicious flavours, all beautifully presented. Our menu features local ingredients, utilising the very best available. We operate from 7:00 am to 2:00 pm Monday to Sunday, with private functions and events across both days and evenings. The Chambers offers both indoor and outdoor seating in a historic 98-year-old building. Our team is friendly, passionate, and hard-working.
Required Skills/Attributes:
3+ years' experience as a Sous Chef in events, catering, and/or production
Experience with breakfast, brunch, and lunch à la carte service
Planning and creating menus in consultation with the Head Chef
Ability to collaborate on menu writing, recipes, and creating costings
Creative approach to new dishes and knowledge of current trends
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
Prioritising a clean and organised work environment
Trade qualified (or equivalent experience)
Assisting with the selection of new team members for events/catering support
Ordering, maintaining stock levels, and ensuring food wastage is minimised
Ensuring kitchen area and equipment comply with health regulations
Ensuring menu comprehension across the restaurant, catering, and café
Ability to train and effectively manage kitchen staff of lower skill levels

Experience/Availability:
3+ years' chef experience alongside relevant Diploma and/or Certificate IV qualification
Experience in a 7-day à la carte operation offering breakfast, lunch, and private functions and catering

Full-time - occasional early morning, weekend, and evening work required
Currently located (or soon to be) in Cairns and planning to stay long term
