Solicitor – Proceeds of Crime  The OPP has the unique opportunity for you to bring your commercial/civil litigation experience to our specialised Proceeds of Crime team. About the Role: The Solicitor – Proceeds of Crime (POC) is a specialised role within the OPP as it is responsible, under supervision, for the preparation of a wide variety of Confiscation Act litigation in the Melbourne Supreme and County Courts and instructing Counsel appearing for the DPP.
Appearing routinely in the Confiscation List of the County Court, the Solicitor (POC) will be required to make applications for restraining and other orders, and other pre-trial proceedings on behalf of the DPP. The Solicitor (POC) will also be responsible for;
Undertaking research, investigation and legal analysis, informing the advice and recommendations provided to the Director of Proceeds of Crime and the DPP. Preparing accurate and concise memoranda on legal issues based on high level research, analysis, synthesis and interpretation. and;Preparing and/or instruct counsel in the conduct of confiscation litigation and other hearings.The Solicitor (POC) will have the opportunity to collaborate with the Trial Divisions and other legal practices across the OPP with respect to related files.

X1 Ongoing and x1 Fixed Term (24 months) About You As a Solicitor (POC ) you will have a strong of commercial and/or civil litigation background coupled with a high level of interpersonal skills that enables you to collaborate across the OPP and liaise effectively with a diverse range of broader stakeholders.
To be successful in the role you will need to demonstrate:
A working knowledge of civil rules and procedure. Criminal law knowledge is desirable but not essential.Competence in the preparation and conduct of commercial and/or civil litigation. Familiarity with proceedings under relevant legislation such as the Confiscation Act is desirable.Demonstrated ability to work independently balancing competing priorities effectively and producing high quality work within tight time constraints and court deadlines.Demonstrated competence in appearing as a solicitor advocate in routine matters in the County Court (or similar). You must be an Australian Lawyer with a current Victorian Practising Certificate.
