Join our Team in the Launceston office as an experienced Solicitor and help us achieve our mission to promote justice, equality, and safety for women, particularly those who are disadvantaged or facing discrimination. Working within our dedicated family violence unit, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work closely with our allied professionals to provide integrated, trauma-informed legal support to those clients who have experienced family violence.
This position is advertised relying on an exception in the Anti-Discrimination Act, as a special measure. Accordingly, this position is open to women applicants only.
What You'll Be DoingProvide a high level of supportive, plain language legal advice, information and referral to women who contact our statewide telephone legal advice line, as well as provide face-to-face advice, assistance and representation for women throughout northern Tasmania who are experiencing family violence.Provide holistic and integrated client service, working with social workers and financial counsellors to address all aspects of client need.Provide community legal education (CLE) workshops, assist drafting law reform submissions, and undertake outreach to community stakeholder organisations to visit with clients in their familiar environments.What We're Looking ForDemonstrated knowledge and experience in practice of law in areas relevant to women - family law, family violence, child safety - and the ability to advocate, negotiate and liaise effectively in a trauma-informed way.Demonstrated experience working in an interdisciplinary way with other professionals, and experience in working with a similar community sector organisation, or with a genuine understanding and desire to work within the not-for-profit sector.Well developed organisational and time management skills, and the ability to set priorities and monitor your own workflow.If this role excites you and you're a Senior Solicitor, we'd still love to hear from you!
