Our purpose is to ensure that people in the Northern Territory understand their legal rights and disadvantaged people have access to quality legal services, and to uphold a fair Northern Territory and national justice system.About the role:Under the supervision of the Managing Solicitor of the Darwin Criminal Law Practice, provide high quality legal advice and representation to clients of Legal Aid NT charged with criminal offences.About you:The successful applicants will be able to work within a busy criminal law practice and work cohesively and collaboratively as part of a team.
They will be committed to delivering excellent service for clients and have a demonstrated knowledge of criminal law practice and procedures, along with experience in advising and representing clients in criminal law matters.Crucial to your success in this role are high-level interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills, along with the ability to liaise and communicate effectively with staff, external stakeholders, and clients with complex needs from diverse backgrounds.Candidates seeking to apply for the P3 position are required to have a minimum of 5 years post-admission experience in criminal law practice, including the conduct of contested matters, and a demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality complex legal advice, assistance, and representation in a range of criminal law matters, as well as undertake related advocacy, policy, and law reform work.Employee benefits:Legal Aid NT offers attractive employment benefits such as 6 weeks annual leave and salary packaging.
