The Department of Social Work within the Townsville Hospital Health Service provides comprehensive Social Work services as an integral part of its health care delivery system.

This position will deliver high level clinical social work services to an allocated clinical area and exercise day-to-day leadership to a team of social workers, working both within a multidisciplinary environment and across a number of wards and clinics. Townsville University Hospital, located adjacent to one of Queensland's leading tertiary institutions, James Cook University, is the largest tertiary hospital in northern Australia, providing specialist referral services for 700,000 people living from Mackay, to the Torres Strait, to the Northern Territory border.
Eligible Allied Health workers who move to Queensland from interstate and international jurisdictions to take up permanent employment may receive up to $20,000 in incentive payments under the
Queensland Health Attraction Incentive Scheme Role responsibilities Provide a high level social work clinical service to an allocated clinical area in accordance with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) Code of Ethics and AASW professional practice standards by identifying and assessing the complex psychosocial care needs of patients/consumers, families and carers; designing, implementing, appropriately modifying and evaluating strategies to achieve positive outcomes in meeting client needs.Demonstrate the integration of evidence based practice and well-developed clinical knowledge, skills and understanding of the continuum of care in the delivery of Social Work clinical services to clients with complex needs.Work cooperatively within a multidisciplinary team/s by effectively integrating the social work perspective with other discipline perspectives to effect optimal psychosocial care, especially for patients/consumers.Operationally manage team members' day-to-day work and provide clinical advice and direction, particularly in complex matters to a team of Social Workers.Provide clinical practice supervision to less experienced social work practitioners and students commensurate with level of experience and contribute to the professional development of staff to ensure the maintenance of professional clinical standards with the Social Work Department.Actively participate in professional supervision, line management supervision and departmental educational activities.Monitor the professional standards and outcomes produced by subordinate staff and team, including identifying and implementing service improvement initiatives.Actively participate in the professional management service arrangements of the local area/unit. This will include attendance at unit/department and social work team meetings, participation in Clinical Emergency On-Call services, participation in the extended hours service and weekend service, public holidays and in accordance with fluctuations of workloads assisting other social workers across the hospital and data collection requirements.Contribute to Quality Improvement activities; including the provision of advice regarding operational processes and service delivery matters affecting wider Hospital based Social Work services. Role requirements A tertiary degree (or equivalent) qualification in social work that provides eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW). Roster: The incumbent understands and agrees to participation in rotation across clinical areas and campuses, On-call arrangements (including the Department's Emergency Clinical On-call Roster, which requires a 30 minute response time), shift work (including early, late and night), as well as weekends and public holidays.
