The Department The Social Work Department operates in accordance with the philosophy and goals of The Alfred. A focus on quality of life and participation in care is a primary goal of the Department. Social Work aims to identify and address the psychosocial impacts of illness and hospitalisation for patients and their families by providing a range of services which increase quality of life and participation in care. Social Work also assists patients and their families with a smooth transition from hospital to home.
The Role The Social Worker is responsible for the provision of advanced social work services to patients and their families/significant others within The Alfred Hospital. The worker will be required to consult with colleagues and staff from other disciplines on relevant issues as required, and to provide advanced casework expertise. The worker will be required to complete comprehensive psychosocial assessments and have a good understanding of hospital discharge planning processes. The Social worker will also be required to perform work that requires special knowledge and depth of experience of Family Violence/ Child Protection/ NDIS processes and supports. An understanding of working with an Electronic medical record will also be desirable for this role. The Grade 2 Social Worker in Alfred Cancer is responsible for the provision of advanced social work services to inpatients and their families/significant others within the Alfred Cancer service and will be providing support to Oncology, Radiotherapy, Haematology, Bone Marrow Transplant and Palliative care patients. The worker will be required to consult with colleagues and staff from other disciplines on relevant issues as required and to provide advanced casework expertise. The worker will be required to complete comprehensive psychosocial assessments, ensure linkages with relevant cancer, community and support services. Advanced counselling and adjustment counselling skills will be relevant to this role as this will be required for patients, families/ significant others within the Alfred Cancer Service. This role will be for patients who are Inpatients within the Cancer stream at The Alfred Hospital.
This position may be required to work at any or all campuses of the Alfred Health as and when required. Such a requirement may be ongoing, a temporary arrangement, on an ad hoc basis or a permanent change of location. The ability to work one weekend day per month would be required for this role.
Skills/Qualifications Required Essential Eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers. Bachelor of Social Work, or recognised equivalent.Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team and with families, exhibiting initiative and facilitative qualities.Knowledge of current Legislation and Policy in relation to Social Work in a hospital setting.Required to perform work that requires special knowledge and depth of experience in any one or more of the following:Knowledge of current Legislation and Policy in relation to Social Work in a hospital setting.Desirable Working towards or Postgraduate qualifications in Social Work or a related field.Hospital-based work experience.Sound IT Skills.Staff Benefits Salary Packaging and Novated Leasing.Discounted Health Insurance.Staff Car Parking (subject to availability).Onsite Gym (Alfred Hospital).Close to shops and public transport.For more details on the role please download the attached Position Description.
