Employment Type : Permanent Part Time Position Classification : Social Worker Level 5 Remuneration : $63.67 - $65.22 per hour plus superannuation Hours Per Week : 34 Requisition ID : REQ495376 This unique permanent part-time 9-day fortnight position provides professional and educational support to both St George and Sutherland Hospitals, however is primarily based at St George Hospital. The successful candidate will be someone with a demonstrated interest in understanding the ongoing educational needs for social workers, and the ability to implement programs to address these needs. This position also holds a clinical caseload providing grief and bereavement support to families and loved ones of patients who have passed away at St George Hospital . Applicants are advised that the position involves directly working with vulnerable people and people experiencing trauma and acute grief responses. Previous work experience in this area would be advantageous. You will be part of a large, dedicated and highly skilled department working with culturally and socially diverse patients and their families. Consideration will be given to requests for a job share arrangement, however there is a preference for the successful candidate to fully assume the position. Where you'll be working The Social Work Department is comprised of a large, dedicated and skilled workforce providing a high level of evidence-based patient care. Our departmental wellbeing and social committee also ensures that we support ourselves as well as we support our patients and their families. The St George Hospital and Health Services is part of the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District. It is an accredited, principal teaching hospital of the University of New South Wales and is not only the largest hospital within the Local Health District, but is among the leading centres for trauma and emergency management in NSW. St George Hospital is located 14kms from the Sydney CBD with easy road links to Sydney's north, south and west. Just a 10 minute walk from Kogarah train station, St George Hospital is very easily accessible by public transport. The local suburb of Kogarah offers employees with easy access to a range of local cafes, shops, services and supermarkets, including the waterside lifestyle at Brighton le Sands and shopping and cinemas at Westfield Hurstville. What you'll be doing The vision for South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) is 'exceptional care, healthier lives' . SESLHD is committed to enabling our community to be healthy and well, and to providing the best possible compassionate care when people need it. The Social Work Educator is based within the Social Work Department and will work across St George Hospital (SGH), The Sutherland Hospital (TSH). The Social Work Educator facilitates learning and continuing professional development for social workers and their support staff. In consultation with social workers, the Social Work Educator will develop, deliver and evaluate continuing professional development programs, clinical skills development programs and staff orientation programs for SGH and TSH. The Social Work Educator will support and facilitate social work undergraduate Fieldwork Education placements in consultation with Social Work services and relevant universities. The Social Work Educator will be required to participate in and promote quality improvement activities, evidence based practice, and the development and implementation of research activities. The Social Work Educator will encourage and support staff across the departments to be involved with these activities. The Social Work Educator is responsible for the implementation and monitoring of the Social Work Department Field Education Strategic Plan and the Continuing Professional Development Strategic Plan. The position will have education, management and clinical responsibilities. The ability to perform with a high level of professional knowledge, exercise substantial professional judgement and undertake work of significant scope is inherent in the operation of the position. This position will carry a clinical workload two days per week. The Social Work Educator may also provide supervision to Level 1/2, Level 3 and Level 4 staff as directed by the SGH and TSH Social Work Department Heads. Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified for this position following suitable labour market testing. All Category A workers and new recruits are required to receive one dose of the seasonal influenza vaccine annually to be considered compliant. Category A workers and new recruits who are non-compliant with seasonal influenza vaccination or have a medical contraindication to influenza vaccinations must comply with all other infection control risk reduction strategies as directed while working in a Category A position. Extensive clinical experience in Social Work in a health setting including working with patients with acute and chronic health conditions. Demonstrated commitment to ongoing education and continuing professional development in Social Work and in Adult Education. Demonstrated experience and skills in the design, development, delivery and evaluation of education programs for social workers. Experience in planning, coordinating and evaluating social work Field Education. Experience in the application of adult learning principles in continuing professional development and field education and best practice in graduate education and undergraduate education and responsiveness to clinicians' skill development requirements in the workplace. Demonstrated commitment to continuous Quality Improvement, Evidence Based Practice and the development and implementation of research skills. Highly developed verbal and written communication skills, including proficient computer skills and advanced report writing skills including reporting against key performance indicators.
