An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and qualified Psychiatrist to join the team at Mental Health Service with Southern NSW.
The primary purpose of the role is to provide high-quality diagnostic and consultative specialty services in acute child and adolescent psychiatry, and to participate in teaching, research, quality improvement, and administrative activities within the Mental Health Service and Hospital as required.

Southern NSW Local Health District covers a large area of the state, from Goulburn and Crookwell to the Victorian border, and surrounds the ACT on three sides, a total of 44,537 sq kms.

Our Offer:
Provide clinical management of patients and deliver high-quality psychiatric service to patients, families, and colleagues, within the scope of clinical practice granted by the Southern NSW Local Health District (SNSWLHD) Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee.
As part of the Child and Adolescent Acute Response mental health team, provide direct patient care and clinical leadership in a multidisciplinary environment in line with the team's model of care.
The role may include elements of telehealth.
Provide strong leadership in case reviews and case conferences, attending, participating, and leading these as required.
Provide a high-quality consultative service to clinicians and other professionals as required in relation to children, adolescents, and their families being treated in the SNSWLHD.
Ensure that detailed patient treatment plans are in place to reflect clinical decisions and support timely safe discharge, and that effective clinical handover occurs.
Ensure a high standard of clinical record documentation is maintained.
This includes completion of clinical records (including medication charts/orders) to reflect clinical decisions and ensure appropriate databases are kept up to date, including outcomes measures as required by the SNSWLHD.
Ensure that all reporting requirements are completed as required, including Key Performance Indicators for the team.
Participate in the clinical and other activities of the Department (including administrative and teaching/educational meetings as required by the Department Head or Director Medical Services) and participate in the on-call roster.
Participate in Department and Hospital quality improvement programs to maintain professional standards, quality of care, and patient safety, including clinical audit and peer review, incident/complaints review and management, National Standards assessments, and child-, adolescent- and family-centred care.
This will also involve appropriate escalation to the Department Head, for example in relation to clinical incidents or complaints.
Participate in the SNSWLHD Performance Management and Development Program, maintaining professional competence and meeting requirements for continuing professional development as determined by relevant specialist medical college standards and the Medical Board of Australia.
This may include Departmental training programs and any other training courses specified by the SNSWLHD to enhance personal development, skills, and knowledge, and practice requirements.
Selection Criteria:
MBBS or equivalent.
Registered specialist medical practitioner, or eligible for specialist registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), Fellowship of the Royal Australian New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP), Membership of the Faculty of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (RANZCP) and/or other equivalent specialist recognition as provided for in the NSW Staff Specialists (State) Award.
Applicants expecting to be awarded their FRANZCP within 3 months may be considered; if successful, the applicant will not be subsequently eligible to commence their appointment until after the relevant qualifications and requirements are formally completed.
Demonstrated current clinical practice skills in child and adolescent psychiatry, with ability to adapt clinical practice in accordance with contemporary evidence-based practice, including in acute CAMHS settings.
Demonstrated effective communication skills (written and verbal) with other professionals, children, adolescents, and families in a clinical setting, including the ability to work effectively both individually and as part of a team with excellent conflict management skills, and flexibility.
Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety, and risk management.
Demonstrated track record in supervision and training of junior medical staff, including prevocational and advanced trainees.
Demonstrated commitment to continuing self-directed professional development, including evidence of participation in continuing medical education and continuing professional development.
Demonstrated ability to comply with the service objectives of the SNSWLHD, including the provision of services to the local community, effective use of resources, preparedness to participate in the provision of health services at the District level.
Evidence of a current unrestricted driver's licence and the ability to maintain.
Ability and willingness to drive/travel as the role requires.
This may involve driving long distances and overnight stays.
Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination against Specific Diseases
This is a Category 'A' position, please read and understand NSW Health policy directive PD2024_015.
All new employees must agree to comply with the requirements outlined in this policy.
OASV requirements also include proof of vaccination against influenza and is compulsory for NSW Staff that enter any Residential Aged Care Facility (RACF) or who work in NSW Health owned and operated RACFs.
