General/Business Unit Manager (CEO & General Management) Full time Skipper/ Business Operations Manager, Argo About Argo Argo Expeditions is a specialist liveaboard charter vessel based in Cairns, Queensland. Argo is a 27m motor yacht with a cruising range of 3000 kilometres. The vessel can accommodate up to 18 passengers overnight with cabins below deck, and up to 48 passengers on day trips.
Argo Expeditions conducts dive and other private charters on the Great Barrier Reef and surrounding areas, visiting some of the most remote and unique sites in the region. When not out to sea, the vessel is at the port at Sailfish Quay, Cairns Marlin Marina.
In addition to private charters, Argo Expeditions also supports research charters in partnership with Government, Educational and private research organisations.
About the Role As the Skipper/Business Operations Manager , you will be the face of Argo, responsible for selling to customers and taking charters, while also overseeing the end-to-end operations of the vessel. This includes ensuring smooth day-to-day operations, managing maintenance, ensuring safety, and maintaining compliance with all maritime regulations.
The role will be directly reporting to Chief Operating Officer, Soda, however, you will partner with key internal stakeholders across the Soda Group, including the Founder and Director, Soda, Director of Photography, Biopixel; People & Culture, Marketing and Brand and Finance teams.
Role Responsibilities Manage the day-to-day operations and activities of Argo; Manage the customer engagement process, from initial inquiry through to booking and payment; Provide the highest level of service to ensure customers feel welcome and engaged; Plan and execute logistics for all charters; Coordinate and facilitate multi-day live aboard charters; Deliver charter services to customers in a safe, efficient and legislatively compliant manner; Manage and maintain the compliance and safety registers, including performing routine and preventative maintenance as required; Ensure crew members are proficient with all safety and fire equipment and conduct random drills whilst on "inhouse" charters, including but not limited to launching Carley floats; Manage the maintenance program of the vessel, ensuring the vessel remains compliant with regulatory requirements and the ongoing operation of the vessel is satisfactorily maintained; Recruit team members across all charters to ensure optimal coverage and operational readiness; Liaise directly with People & Culture when onboarding, ensuring all new starters have the relevant training, qualifications and experience for a positive, safe customer experience; Manage the full employment lifecycle, ensuring team compliance with policies, rostering standards, and internal processes for accurate payroll; In partnership with the Soda Finance team, maintain a detailed periodic maintenance plan and budget; Work with the Soda Marketing and Brand team to create and execute a Marketing Plan for the boat; Work with the Biopixel Team on research related projects; Any other duties as directed. Role Requirements Strong business acumen with a proven track record in successfully running similar charter operations; Unrestricted Master class 4 Experienced diver holding a Dive Instructor or Dive Master qualification; Oceanic Equipment Technician, or similar training in maintaining compressors and/or diving equipment desirable; Responsible Service of Alcohol certificates; Current Police clearance; Excellent knowledge of current maritime legislation in relation to commercial charter vessels and marine incident reporting; Knowledge of WH&S legislation specific to the maritime industry, Certificate of Safety Training and Senior First Aid Certificate (O2 & CPR); Strong working knowledge of marine propulsion and auxiliary machinery operation and maintenance; Strong customer-focused approach with the ability to build rapport with a diverse group of clients/customers; Highly organised, with strong time-management skills and the ability to coordinate multiple priorities effectively; Excellent leadership skills including during emergency situations; Able to work flexible hours and adapt to multiple charter assignments throughout the year. #J-18808-Ljbffr
