The School of Biomedical Sciences is looking to appoint sessional (casual) teaching staff who can support learning and teaching (delivery of practical sessions, workshops or tutorials) in the Bachelor of Biomedical Science, Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science and additional units taught in Allied health degrees in the Faculty of Health. QUT's School of Biomedical Sciences is internationally renowned for combining innovative research with high-quality teaching programs to address global health issues. Our interdisciplinary and collaborative research focuses on key challenges in health, including cancer, genomics and infectious diseases. Our discovery and enterprise generate knowledge and solutions that improve healthcare outcomes for individuals and communities both locally and internationally.
Our research-led undergraduate and postgraduate education programs are educating and training the next generation of scientific leaders and entrepreneurs in the biotech, pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors.
What do you need to succeed? Successful applicants will have the following: Working hours and pay rate
Hours vary according to individual unit timetables. Classes typically run from 9AM to 6PM, Monday to Friday on some or all weeks from 24th February to 30th May (Sem 1) and 21st July to 24th of October (Sem 2) 2025. The school runs classes at both Kelvin Grove and Gardens Point Campuses.
You will need to commit for each week a unit's practical classes are held, although exceptions will be considered where agreed in advance. This is a real job, and you are expected to commit to it. Inductions would generally be carried out in the 1-2 weeks before the start of each semester.

Research assistants, postdoctoral fellows, honours and postgraduate students with discipline expertise.
Applicants who have previously taught in their field at a significant level who want to return to the workforce.
Applicants with substantial professional or industry experience (particularly in Medical Laboratory Science) who are looking to explore teaching opportunities.
We will assess you on your written application and resume, and performance at an interview, which may include a technical skills analysis. You do not have to work or study at QUT to apply.

Applicants may be contacted by Unit Coordinators and provided with semester based sessional teaching contracts that match your profile. Sessional contracts should only be accepted if you are confident that you have the capacity to complete the appointed hours.
